went to look at cleaning a pure wool beige carpet, somebody had tried to clean it, there was an area just in front of the door leading to the lounge where it had been heavily stained, it looks to me like the stain has been spread resulting in a dark patch about foot square before i attempt the job would appreciate any comments first thanks

You are lucky you went and saw it! I have one tomorrow details over the phone, red wine customer went to Sainsbury’s and brought there carpet cleaner substance, my automatic response was yes I will look and try but cant guarantee anything apart from my workmanship!
Think I may need the iron, terry towels and the hairdryer on this one.

thanks for the reply len, have since spoken to customer she said it started out as a couple of maybe wine stains ?, shes not sure herself, they have now merged into one dark patch as i said in my previous post, any guidance on what to use to try and rectify the offending stain ? thanks

Probably a build up of detergents from DIY spotting attempts, they are now attracting dust hence the big black area.
Microsplitters will remove fairly easily and not make the matter worse as it does not contain detergents ;D
See this sort of thing all the time and always play down expected results so you end up looking like a HERO ::) Make sure you explain that they may have watermarked it and that could show once you have removed all the surrounding soil, you do NOT want to be blamed for any left over mark that they cannot yet see.

Dave,
I agree with Chris but would suggest you extract with just hot water first.

Sorry I had to draw you out, but thank for more info would hate to advise what cleaning agent/method you needed if you did not know what is was in the first place!
As with Doug you need to plain water extra first that should show up the actual staining my favourite is Red RX, tools: iron, terry towels and the hairdryer.
Chris another HERO under the belt plus another £35 to clean the rest of the carpet! :'( all the way to the bank
