Title: Came unstuck today
Post by: Pittmonkey on March 07, 2008, 08:46:44 pm
Cleaning a leaded window today and a strip of lead came away from the glass. I pointed this out to the customer and said I would put it right for him. He was fine about it and didn't make a song and dance about it.

I'm presuming there is a purpose made product for this. Anyone know what it is or have any suggestions?

Thanks
Wayne

you can get rolls of lead strip for windows from argos , or if you call in at a local window company they will probally give you a piece its self adesive so easy to replace .

Thanks Dave, I was going to ring a local glaziers on Monday and they would come up with the goods no doubt.

Just thought if there was a quick on the job fix for the future to stick it back down with anything. (Other than a blob of Blue-tac ;D before any one says)

Only problem with putting a new strip on is that it may look odd compared to the old lead. Maybe not :-\

if you put a new strip on it wont take long to dull , if you just want to stick the old piece back superglue will do that .

If it's a real leaded window with tiny panes of glass, held together with real leaded strips then I believe you need to use 100% pewter lead for filling in any very small gaps in the leaded strips. It can just about be annealed (worked/moulded) at hand temperature, or better still, heat it up in a kettle if need be. But then again if it's real leaded windows , why would you WFP it, because they leak like mad, lol

I have a house where the lead is stuck on and due to the time its been on the glass it is now coming off. As a favour to a good custy I would stick it back on but otherwise it is really down to them. You only clean the glass not maintain it to that degree.
