Title: getting a friend to canvass
Post by: STEVE-UK on March 06, 2008, 03:44:01 pm
Hi again

i have got a mate to canvass for me but he hasnt a clue about window cleaning / pricing but has door to door sales experience doing double glazing ,so ive given him an average price guide for him to show custys and then asks them if he can send his colleague round for a quote and to clean if requested (me) :D , at the mo i dont get time to canvass myself as im still working for a commercial window cleaning company.

can you guys see any potential downfalls

I pay him commission only on the jobs i actually clean not just for quotes

Downfalls??? Just about everything. He will get the wrong houses, and if he's going to do estimates, the wrong prices.

Always canvass your own work.

I think GQC is right that it you should canvass yourself, that would be ideal.
But if you are too busy then the idea is a good one.
Show the guy exactly what houses, price, area, you want and with his experience of door to door you may have a winning idea on your hands.  ;D

if he is not pricing and you are I cant see a problem at all, I have someone do this for me aswell, works well, I tell them what I want and they knock. Canvassing myself I dont think so, I work to many hours as it is.

i have given him a list of guide prices per 2,3,4 bed  semi +det houses, but may change due to - access, extensions, conservatoires etc , i have told my mate under no circumstances to quote a job and just to book me in on a saturday morning to quote and do job if requested

if it does work ,that would be problem solved on the canvassing side, i will get him doing it all the time

i will also try to get him canvassing while i'm doing windows in the same road

its all worth a go !

went out yesterday with my mate for just an hour, i thought i'd better be there on his first day , it worked well he was getting the customers quicker than i could clean em ! it was a large estate with flats up to 5 floors, as all the flats had the same amount of windows i done it on 2 fixed prices, 1st price for grd and 1st ,2nd price for 2nd floor and up and that was with crappy weather !

will give it another go in case that was a fluke but im quite confident it will work

i would set up a pricing structure so its idiot proof when it comes to pricing. make sure there is decent access all the way round and your on to a winner ;)

IF YOUR FREIND IS CALL PHIL THE DILL I WOULD DO IT YOURSELF AS HE HAS NEVER HAD SEX AND HE IS 35 YEAR'S OLD.
TELL YOURSELF- WOULD YOU ASK HIM TO CHAT A WOMEN UP FOR YOU  !!!!NO!!!
HE WILL PROBABLY DROP ALL YOUR LEAFLET'S ON THE FLOOR.
THE ONLY THING THAT HE IS GOOD AT IS WATCHING PORN.

What the?!  ??? ???

I'm thinking of doing this myself, not sure what to pay him though. Minimum wage plus commission? Or commission only?

You think I should get him to price, or just give them an estimate, so that they wont be a "how much????  :o :o" when I go to give them an exact price?
