Title: carpet removal
Post by: Richy L on March 06, 2008, 03:38:03 pm
Hey guys,
Im from the window cleaning and general cleaning part really, but i was wondering if anyone could help me....

i have been asked to remove some VERY old carpet from the back of a shop.
Its a stairway and landing. i need to rip it up, bag it, dispose of it, then sweep and hoover it.

...oh yeah, and it hasn't been used for about 12 years....  so as you can imagine its VERY dusty.

I have no idea how much i should be charging for this.
I have put in £100. is this reasonable?

I charge £ 1.50 per square metre, but then it usually forms part of the rest of the job, fitting new.

If I was going to do it as a one-off job then I would charge £ 80 minimum, bearing in mind you may have tp pay to dump it.

hi Richy,
Not sure anyone on this section will be able to advise on this type of work.
I think it maybe a general cleaning matter.
I would imagine the job would take 2 hours so £100.00 seems reasonable to me mate.

thats what i thought.

I have done the job now.
It took me about 1.5 hours. Being as all the waste is just carpet, i could just take it down the dump couldn't i? I have a couple of things i need to take down there anyway from my own house.

Also if your taking waste away from a job you really need to have a waste carriers licence, big fine, plus they could confiscate your van if caught. you can get them from the environment agency they are around £180 for three years. They are really hot around my area due to fly tipping, its the police who will stop you so be aware if your doing this.
