The site does not sell at all, you are making the mistake of aiming it at CC's or even yourself, not at your customers.
The award winning stuff is just bull and unlikely to convince.

Doug, thats good honest balls. I like people who say it as it is ;).
Now give me some pointers . 8)

Agree with Doug, think I would move on if I was looking for my carpets cleaned. I think Shaun's is very good, but even that has spelling mistakes, and poor grammer in places.
-
there seems to be a lot of unused space......... :)

And spell check! ;)

Paul site looks a little dated but it looks straight away as if you are well trained and a company you can TRUST which is after all the only reason a punter would call and is the best " call to action". Needs better contact details.
Needs a bit of modernizing but IMO good content and Chris Straker seems to be doing OK making a big deal out of his rewards ;) ;)
-
Mind you, i have same photo from AllergSTOP award certificate................. only use awards that i won by vote not by sales as it can instill more confidence ;)
Only good if search engines find wording and many will not even ask about awards ................ i have come across quite a few that read about them in local paper though.
Site looks okay but need to try and remove impression of diy, may be worth speaking to Mark 'Fosters' Roberts

Time for it to go may be ;)
Take a step forward Mark Roberts

Chris do you have his number.
-
It's better now the flash front page is gone.
More 'sell' on the first page, and definitely needs a land line number.
It does look like an 'inside' page rather than an introduction.
Disagree with The Commander ( is that allowed :P ), at least you have a picture of yourself on there, it doesn''t matter what the Award is for or from.
My web pages are poo too, will get around to changing them soon.
Who is the bloke on the left in the AS pictures?
-
That guy with the glasses on would frighten your children.
-
I can't claim to be an expert in these matters but I think people looking for carpet cleaners through their websites are looking for reassurance that the company they might be about to engage to do some work for them is a professional outfit worthy of their trust, whereas a lot of carpet cleaners make the mistake of using their website to tell people what they think they want to hear because it is important to them, but is not necessarily important to the prospective customers.
Having said all of that, now you can all rip into our website: www.gerrardscarpetcleaners.co.uk

Gary that guy is Gunther Glockner ( Solution guy from Germany)
Dont know what you mean about commander?
-
Thought it might have been Gunther.
The Commander is Straker of course ;D

Simon, looks good to me,but then again thought mine did ;D
That dust mite frightened the poo out of me. :o

Hi guys
Well I think the future in any web site design is that it has to have some kind of action in the site, ie: movie, it has to be more visual, that’s why we have come up with our web site which customer can see for themselves how is done. And I think that will sell for itself.
Our web site is still under construction, there will be more movie in there in next few weeks.

Simon,
Dust mite page is FANTASTIC ............ love the little creepy crawlies running across page :o
-
Has anyone asked their customers what they thought of their website. Do any of you have tracking software and if so how many pages actually get looked at.
Simons comment that customers are just looking for contact details in order to ring or email you is I think a valid point. Thats not to say you can't have loads of info on your site.
-
John, thats why I asked the question because my website details are on my flyers and my customers often comment saying your web site looks good.I rank high on google but get very little internet work.
Got Mark onto it now.
-
Chris,
There's even sound on the creepy crawlies too, no stone, or is it bug left unturned as they say. ;D

I read somewhere on a website forum or something that you should never start media content on a web page automatically as it will annoy the hell out of a lot of people. For instance if you have low download limits you will be using up a lot of this by starting these files automatically. Also imagine if you were listening to the radio or other music on your computer and all of a sudden you come to a page that automatically loads media content and bam it just sounds like a mashed up garble coming through the speakers.
Cheers Goron

That guy with the glasses on would frighten your children.
He's actually a really nice bloke. Pretty unfair comment as hes not here to defend himself, would have expected more from a businessman like yourself John.
-
Unfortunately Gary having met him and had dealings with him I beg to differ.
-
Well, you would wouldn't you!!!
Still no need for the comment, if he was on here to defend himself then fair enough, but as he's not it's a cheap shot.
Would have expected a bit of professionalism from someone who was once laughably nominated in an almost self started thread "Most influential man in carpet cleaning", which still makes me laugh to think of it.
-
second that Gary
not too professional a comment.
Cheers Goron
-
Heh, when someone belittles you in the middle of a cleaning show in front of your own customers its a wonder I've kept quiet so long. If you don't like it tough.
-
Hi Guys
Theres obviously some bad feeling here but we need to get back to the topic please.
I do think lots of websites are obsessed with rankings and are not sales orientated enough.
Cheers
Doug
-
I apologise for the stupid post I made but this has been eating away at me since the incident. I will speak of it no more.
-
John, if this guy was so disrespectful.
As far as I`m concerned you can say what you want.
Sorry Doug :-X
-
Something not too in depth customers don't want to the in's and outs of the process you use.A couple of good before and after pictures.Make sure you contact details are on all pages.
I would love a facility where customers could send pics of stains etc as had enquiry today
"Comments: We have a cream carpet which has a big blackurrent stain on on also dried milk stains which has gone a dark orange/brown colour. Do you think it is possible for you to get these stains out?"

Always loved the forums for discussions and advice ................................... snide comments and insults are what mobiles and cars were made for ;D

someone once told me that the worst person to design an advert is the person who the advert is for, you put in what you think is good, whenever i have written my own copy for adverts my family fall about laughing but i think they are great, simple and to the point seems to be the best and in laymans terms so that joe public can understand what you are on about,
