I currently work for the old man and he won't give me any more money ! >:(
I have suggested that I go Self employed and work for him as subcontractor whilst having work of my own too.
Own van, tools, invoices, customers, and also working alongside old man on his round.
Who knows bout IR35 ??
Is it possible to do this or are we set for trouble ? (old man has several previous bad history with MR tax)

dan are you dan the man from another forum. any way cant see a problem sub contracting as long as you have your own customers as well you simply agree price for work carried out for old man and you invoice him. it only becomes a problem if the vast majority of your work is soley for him but even then i really cant see a problem

1) do you bring enough to the business to warrant a wage rise?
2) In February you posted that you had already gone SE and were subcontracting to him........isn't it just a teensy bit late to be asking the question now? :)
3) will you be trading from the same address as this is one of the things that IR might not like.
4) No offence but if your step dad has already had issues with the IR, then make sure you get it right and keep it right :)

I wouldn`t bother with the inland reveue,i asked the same thing to my accountant and he told me that they look for this method being used in all self employed jobs, more often than not they look at it in a suspicious way.You can only do so many hours otherwise your employed in there eyes.
