Title: Whats your min charge????
Post by: markpowell on March 01, 2008, 08:52:20 pm
Had a customer ring me today asking for a rough price to clean a hallway 6 x 3 ft, I said it would be our  min charge of £40.00, he said he had just had a price of £10.00 quoted.
My question is do you have a min charge and if so would you mind sharing it with us, we thought that £40 was reasonanble.
Cheers Mark

With diesel costs the way they are £55, I would happily lose a customer if they expected me to turn up for £10

I suppose it depends on your work area radius , if its in town i.e 5-10 mins travel then £35 , out of town within 20mins £40.
Having said that I wouldn't want a days worth of minimum charge jobs!

£60 for new customers.

Old customer £50 but for stain removal Ive gone as low as £20 or even free.  For stain removal is more relationship building than money making.

Having said that you can still remove a stain in 20mins for £20 which isnt bad IF your very nearby.

Just to add to the poll; £50 but in process of going up to £55.

However it may also depend upon why it needed cleaning. If there was one of those stains that takes time to get out then it becomes a time issue and the price could go up.

Customer has to balance it against the cost of new carpet with the hassle of choosing it, having the old one uplifted and removed, possibly new underlay, fitting costs etc.

I wont say what my minimum is but a question.

Surely our minimum charge should be what we want per hour.

As is often discussed on here we would aim to get £100 an hour.

So my question is why under any normal circumstances would you charge less than a hundred for a minimum?

Just wondered.

Best, Dave.

£47.50 which as Dave says is for an hour. I often offer to do something else if job is only going to take 20 mins. I find that way the custy begins to appreciate the idea of the minimum charge a little more.

I have a simular pricing and mind set as Mark Roberts (don't which one UK or IRE)

The thing with minimum charge is that too high and you can put good customers off, I appreciate you have to cover costs but when working local £50 to drop in and clean a small bedroom is affordable and you get a customer and a recommend for later and you'll be surprised at how much they may want when you are there or when seeing you work have a quote for something else.

Hi Guys

Mine is 50 but thats only if I have to, generally it would be 70 as I don't really want single room jobs.

If it's an old customer or a deserving case then I will do for 50.

Cheers

Doug

Was £40, but might go up to £45 now, having read what everyone else is charging. Most jobs fit the 40 mark, it only those silly ' I only what my hall cleaned job' that need a min charge.

Why on earth was he wasting his time ringing around for a cheaper quote when already quoted £10 what was he expecting £5?

Some people are unbelievable.

I once saw a leaflet for a carpet cleaner who actually had reasonable cheap prices for carpet cleaning but a minimum charge of £65 which covered maybe a carpet and a half (if that makes sense!) obviously he is saying "come and get it cheap but make it worth my while"

Mine can be as low as 35.00 for local customers because lots of little jobs normally lead to lots of bigger jobs and plenty of refferall work.

Start charging 100.00 for a very small job and 9 times out of 10 you aint getting that initial first foot in the door.

People in general know the difference between getting a good job at a fair price and just being ripped off.

I agree Andy, Mike Halliday has pointed this out before and that is why I have refrained from highering it too much but it's a good way of getting in the door legally.

Yup!

HSL or whatever for £43 but a minimum charge of £45 means that they'll have to have al least two items cleaned.

An old lady phoned me looking to get her 8x6 kitchen carpet cleaned, stating that other cc had turned her down. was local so did it for £10, when passing and she was delighted. resulted in 2 other jobs. one being her daughter. being a newbie, was happy to do the work, and get my name known, but if I could pick and choose work i obvioiusly would have passed.

Nice one Garyfin, there is always an exception to the norm - you did an old lady a good turn, you got the self satisfaction of helping someone and then some more!

£40.00
Title: Re: Whats your min charge????

Ive often thought of keeping prices moderate but having a £150 min.  In other words getting the customer to spend more.

Driving is becoming the most expensive part of doing business so if you can keep that to a min then its more profit at the end of the day.

I've often thought this as this is what the US cleaners do but I just wondered if it will bring in the cheaper carpets or clients and then there's always the anomaly room sizes.

PS NO discounts on upholstery!

Mark,
Dont forget that some pensioners are very wealthy and have very little to spend there money on, They could be On Index linked pensions if they have worked for the Goverment, which must account for 30% of them.
