I have come across a window that has a white deposit on it, the window is next to the jigger/extension and the water bounces off the gutter onto the window. Is this lime scale? and how do I get it off? ???
-
Are you using WFP's to clean?
-
Soap the window up and scrape it off with a scraper. ;)
-
using trad

If it's limscale which it probably is it won't come off with a scraper. Check previous posts re: limscale. Should give you the tips you need.

Cillit Bang for lime and grime. Or almost any other supermarket shower cleaner provided it says it removes limescale. While you are in the supermarket buy some pan scourers, the yellow sponge ones with a greem scourer on one side are best and a packet of dishcloths, the white "knitted" ones. Now you are well equipped for all sorts of problem windows.

lime lite (just like cillit bang) spray it on leave for a few minutes then just wipe it away, clean as normal after

Did one today where the overflow from the toilet had splashed onto the windows.

Previous posts suggested white vinegar.

Go and buy some 0000 grade wire wool :o yes wire wool, soak it in your bucket and wash the lime scale off, easy peasy.
Rosa, when I was growing up in Liverpool a Jigger was an alleyway or entry ;D and we all knew why it was called a Jigger ;D ;D ;D

Rubbish!!! I have cleaned loads of limescale off of windows, and have always used a scraper! Its the quickest and easiest method, and I haven't found anything that a good sharp scraper won't get off of a window!
Don't mess about with cillit bang, vinegar or wire wool!! Just scrape it off, what could be easier? ;)
-
Got to disagree with you there, a scraper will shift thick limescale to a degree, but it won't make hardly a dent in limescale that is etched onto the glass.
If it is very fresh limescale then yes, a scraper will get it off.
During the summer months I have to contend with it from hanging baskets over pub windows and so on, the drips from the watering systems get on the glass, and limescale starts to build up.
I scrape it off no problem at all.
At home I've a couple of windows that are badly stained with limescale, and you won't get close to it with a scraper, cillit bang won't touch it and MDR isn't much better.
I've generally told customers there is nothing you can do if it won't shift with a scaper...by the time you've messed about with chemicals and whatnot you could have cleaned another couple of houses!

did you try scraping it first rosa
sorry no, a bit scared to scratch the glass :(
it was a thin film, not thickly deposited
-
When limescale is recent, or fairly recent, either a scraper or something such as cillit bang will remove it quite easily.
But when it is etched onto the glass over a period of years or even a few months, a scraper will not remove it, I've not had a go on my windows with the wire wool, but even brick acid doesn't completely remove it. :-\
It becomes burned into the glass, the bond is very powerful.

nice one,i think ill order a bottle- how much extra would you charge to take the limescale of a pane of glass, could be a nice earner
-
depends how big and how bad the windows are, really bad etched limescale windows took me about 3-5 mins per 1m squared. but it really would depend how bad they are i guess :-\

your remarks make you sound a true professional ::) :-*

Hello Rosa
I always carry some malt vinegar in a 1 ltr pump spray. It has worked every time for me. The downside is the smell.

Cleaned a new customers windows today, one of the windows had a lot of limescale on it, the lady said that her previous cleaner couldn't get it off. It took me about 2 minutes to get the window perfect using my SCRAPER!!!!!!!!! ;D ;)

The easiest and simplist way to remove limescale from any pane of glass is as follows:
purchase a descaler (normally toilet industrial cleaning suppliers will stock it)
wet window with water then put a small amount on a sponge and gently rub in a circular motion, then simply rinse well preferably with warm water.
then applicate and squeegee as normal or use wfp.
lifes easy when you know how ;)
kind regards, Stuart
