Got two days free now and going to deliver as many flyers as I can in two days . Question is - How many am I going to deliver before I get bored , and how many enquries will I get ? Really I am going to do this just to show how the system works ! So If you want to make your comments now and guess how much business I will get then fill your boots ! ;D

dont know if its any comparison but most marketing companies project 5% max takeup on mail shots and 2% average

the problem is that 8,000 flyers will cover a wide area, so while you may get a good few customers from this, they will probably be somewhat spread out and not make up a compact round.
door knocking is better if you ask me, by a million times.

Hmmm if you put out 300 a day then you'll have sore feet and should expect a response within 2 days of 1% or maybe even lower but you will still get those that ring you weeks, months or even years after.
I think its difficult to judge but I think about 2% after 6 months.

It takes time for people to ring you. I would say 1% return within 4 days and 2% within 3 months.

2 weeks to deliver 8000
1 in 10 will read = 10% = 800
1 in that 10 will take another call = 80
1 in that ten will convert = 8
On a good 2 weeks solid full time canvassing you now have 8 new customers @ average £20 each
= £160 per cal month

if you get 1% at a minimum charge of a tenner you will be doing alright. I don't want to sound pessimistic either but i reckon you'll still have a few thousand in 3 months time.
A better place for network advertising whether town or country is to pull up at the churches and call the vicars whose name and number should be on the church sign and ask him or her if there is a church magazine you could place an ad in.
Getting an advert in these type of magazines implies a history of trust in my opinion.
I'll be interested to see how you get on.
If you do get results that are slightly crammed close by then doorknocking the neighbours should help compress the round even more.

i wouldnt bother trying to put out 8000 asap, organise it so you put out 100 1 day, then go back to them all the next day and call and canvass, this way if you steadily go through the 8000 flyers canvassing each one, you can expect a potential of:
based on 7 new customers per 100 canvassed
210 new customers from 8000 flyers & canvassing
over 60 days / 2 months
result... hopefully

according to my maths at 2 minutes a leaflet you'll be looking at 66 hours work. :o

I banked on 1% for my 5000 leaflet run.
However...
I only delivered 200, and got 5 customers!!
Try to target your area. I chose areas that were secluded (new estates, 1970's privatre roads etc). Also look at targetting areas that trad guys might struggle with (townhouses, newbuilds etc)
You can significantly increase your response rate using targetted leafletting.

I would reckon that you'll get about .5% response over the 8000k, you'll hit a few pockets where it looks like you have struck gold but it will even out at between 0.5% - 1%....

Richy, I've asked a couple of leaflet droppers and they all charge £5.00 per hundred flyers; but they'll drop them with other leaflets.

But my experience with leaflets, and I've dropped a good few thousand, is the following:
1. You can post 100 leaflets per hour in an estate. Less if the area consists of bigger posher houses.
2. Canvassing after a leaflet drop works better than canvassing without dropping leaflets (though I never canvassed much; see point number 4).
3. If you're starting from scratch, you'll end up with single accounts EVERYWHERE; so make sure you price well to make it worth your while doing all these drive-betweens.
4. On the rare occassion you hit a 'gold seam' (ie you get three or more calls from one street); canvass the whole area; 'cos it means a window cleaner has dropped out and there's probably lots more work up for grabs.
5. Be careful of dogs biting your fingers when you push the leaflet through the door; some of the little tykes keep quiet and wait for you.

Richy, if the leaflet dropper drops leaflets round areas where you work already, you can always check by asking a few customers if they've received the leaflet.
Tell the leaflet dropper that you'll pay half the cost up front and the other half when you've checked that certain people in the area have received the leaflet; mention that you've family or friends or customers there already.

I dont want to canvass any more for window cleaning customers. Its more for patio/ drive/ upvc/ con roof cleaning. Ive got about 8,000 leaflets left to get rid of! and i want them all gone by early summer

I USE BUSINESS CARDS INSTEAD OF LEAFLETS [sorry caps on] cos people keep them,leaflets go in the bin pretty quickly.
My guess is 1.5% so 8000=120 not bad for a weeks work

Delivered 300 thursday and got 3 calls , so went out tonight for an hour where I delivered and got 10 customers ! Most didnt even recall getting the flyer :P

I couldn`t beleive it yesterday i was doing 2 houses on a high street and was there for about 30mis,in this time i had 6 people come up to me and ask me if i wanted anymore work.All these jobs were within 1-2minutes of where i was working,i took 2 of them on for a total of £60 roughly 45mins work.You can`t beat working in a busy street for getting more work it beats any form of advertising.

well done Jonah, thats good, im finding my website is not completely deserted, i have got several new customers through it but would like to go canvassing soon.
While cleaning for 1 customer in this road, she said next door wants it done, then the guy next door to her, an old chap said '' excuse me can i borrow you'' '' would you like the windows cleaned'' New regular customer... good price, posted to the whole road now, canvassing the rest on monday.
