Mike - I was advised by the bank manager to have a mobile streamline unit in order to take credit cards, sounded a good idea. Then I got the e-mail from streamline and I changed my mind. Charges range from 1.75% to 2.85% depending what credit card your client pays with, although switch/maestro is only 50p per transaction.

However, they want £ 295 + vat set-up fee, plus £ 25 + vat per month standing charge and another £ 29 + vat per month for the hire of the unit !

Don't think I will be pursuing this idea.

Mike Boxall is going to talk about using paypal through our websites at the CCDO. Much cheaper and most of our custys now have this type of account and it's instant (no waiting for cheques to clear) and custy can do it whilst you are at there property or even pay in advance.

Interesting to see how easy it would be set up.

Mike, if you want to know details let me know and I will take notes for you for when you get back.

I take credit and debit cards, although I advertise it only 2 people have used them.
I already have the terminal for use with another business, it's expensive, tied in for 2 years ( ends next month ) and it's awkward taking details as the terminal is at home. I thought a lot more people would use it, so glad I haven't got it specifically for carpet cleaning.

Paypal is expensive and slow, their charges keep going up and up.

Most peeps get a number of "convenience" cheques with their credit card. The custy can always use these if they want to pay on credit.
