Mine's looking a bit of a mess at the mo,.. I'm doing a re-fit with some new gear at the weekend,... so I'll post a pic next week when its looking pretty again!

he is out in the bentley drivinbg around council estates waving a wad of money around shouting out of the window " look at me, ive loadsamoney, look at my wad "

LOL thorpe cant wait for me to reply i see. I have other things to do besides sit and constantly watch a forum. But I do understand that it gets boring here without me to liven it up though. After all, without me here a casual observer would think that cobble togethers are the norm, and we cant have that now can we.
Yes my system is fitted, not a diy job. Someone I know used to fit them, he is a mechanical engineer by trade who has his own engineering company. Very professional job, which I did not mind paying for. He no longer fits systems, too smalltime.
However, I am after a new system very soon. Have to admit, all this talk of hot water has got me wanting that. I dont like the idea of the gas bottle though, but I suppose its the same as what caravaners do. Ho hum.
Matt, glad to see you back. How's life old mucker?
-
I would describe this as Threadbare :o
I do sometimes think it is a shame that so many read and don't contribute
It's like it's ok to take and not give because nobodys looking ???

im not being picky here, BUT you had your tank fitted by a engineering guy, this is just the same as some1 going to a metal fabricator / engineering place and having them make a frame to fit around the tank and bolt to the van OR the same place fitting brackets to the van chasis to fit ratchet straps to
you then fit the van out with your pump etc etc
isnt that just a little DIY-ish

after a bad start to my week with my dropped battery on my drive, things picked up, i did a good 3 days work and picked up a nice little earner, not a bad week tbh

Sure, but you know me better than that.
PLUS you built up the anticipation so much, I felt I had to provide detail

No it isnt. I didnt "have a tank fitted by an engineering guy"
I had a system constructed by an engineering firm, that happened to be owned by an "engineering guy" who I know.
Ratchet straps LOL now THAT is diy.

I read about that, nasty. Started to melt the tarmac or something.
I reckon window cleaning has its ups and downs like anything, but on the whole it is really great

oh i see, so they fitted the tank then fitted a pump / pump controller and di canister to the van aswell , system designers, they are a clever bunch eh, must be university educated :P

I struggle to understand why people are mocked for using their own initiative or skill, my system was fitted but I could have DIY'd it. Yes sometimes a DIY system doesnt look as nice and some people bodge it, but there are those that do it well, Luke
-
LOL matt, no way could my system ever be even close to being considered to be diy.
He isnt a system designer he is an engineer who designed this system for me.
Most of the work they did was in the design and construction of the frame. In hindsight it actually cost about the same as a top brand system, so next time I'll just buy one off the shelf rather than get it bespoke.
Plus, hot water.... mmm

luke, watch it, "they" will see you as sideing with the "cobblers" and will then have to remark on every post you make :P :P

but any engineering firm could make frame to go around a tank AND fit it, hell even some companies sell them off the shelf for the sizes of tanks we use

Maybe, and if you went to an engineering firm to get them to make you a system I would not consider that DIY.
Its not just a frame around a tank, I was concerned that it would be safe in a accident, and making sure of that, as it turns out, is not simple. Actually I'm still not 100% convinced that it IS safe, even though it is hyper secure compared to some of the jobs I've seen on here.

cheers for the useful replies.
MSN was built for chat ;)
-
my van was hit side on and my tank didnt budge a inch, was held down by 5000kg
ratchet straps the strapping is proof tested to 6 to 1 and the weakest components
the fittings are rated at 2 to 1. straps or anything fabricated are only as safe as the
persons knowledge when installing.

heres mine, mate an I did it in an afternoon.

Good setup for an afternoon. Cant stand them blue ettore buckets only good for storing stuff in, no good for water.

This is mine the tank has 50mm x 6mm "L" steels bolted thro the floor & 5ton ratchet straps over that,
the pole carriers are soil pipes with their brackets screwed to the strengthners inside the vans roof

Simbo,
What have you covered your tank with? Is it for insulation purposes and is it any good? I use thermawrap insulation (double sided, silver foiled,. bubble wrap)

I see you are using the George triggers on both your poles. How are you getting on with them? Do you get any tiredness in your hands/fingers? I've fitted them, but because I haven't switched to wfp yet, I haven't used it for the day yet. Feels to me like the perfect on/off flow controller.
(And yes, what brushes do you use, don't think I have seen them before.)
What are your findings? You can email me, so we can keep this thread on topic. Just click on my profile. :)
Thanks.

Mike G, I have a customer who supplies and fits carpets and he gave me some of this underlay which basically has a type of hard foam in between the outer thin plastic exterior and is pretty strong. It is then just glued to tank with spray adhesive and looks pretty good i think. Also i don't get the condensaton all over the tank that i used to.
van is connect t 200 03 plate and love it
