I have got to look at some sissal (or jute) carpets next week that need a good clean. I believe that wet cleaning them is not good due to bad smell afterwards, and hard to extract, due to uneven pile surface. I also believe that these carpets have to be dry cleaned, which from experience does not clean as well as wet cleaning.
Anyone got an advice on cleaning these carpets?
And no I do not have a dry fusion machine
-
My advice is WALK AWAY.
Shrinkage, distortion, watermarking...you name it.

The carpets are in a holiday let cottage, one cottage of 30 I clean, so its a big contract, and I need to have some good information, or I would walk away. I have always avoided cleaning these carpets in the pass, but was wondering if they is a magic solution, out there yet.

Hi Karl
I am LM i would have no probs at all, straight in.
If you're near Brighton, let me know.

P.s. In my humble opinion dry cleaning can clean as deep as wet cleaning, depends on the system used. Just done some salvage cleans and came up as new :)

Hi Karl
You need a quality dry compound system. I have used mine extensively with brilliant results. Did a seagrass carpet a few weeks ago - noone else would touch it. That job lead to 2 more big ones. Where are you based?
-
Hi Martin
What LM system are you using on natural floorings.
-
Martin,
Dont take this the wrong way, I just cant see how LM cleaning can clean as deeply as a TM or top end Portable HWE machine??
I have no doubts that there are a number of situations where a LM method is the system of choice and dont doubt your results are fantastic, but can a LM cleaning sytem reach the pile base?
Not Knocking your system Martin just asking a question :)

Hi
Never would take any offence mate!
Where LM is concerned I am more than used to the sceptisism and I do understand it, afterall HWE has been the mainstay of the industry for over 30 years.
I have just done a salvage clean which had compacted dog hair all the way from the bottom of the pile where at the top it looked like black stains. I got a grapefruit size ball of hair out of the carpet.
I would go up against any portable system with my LM system.
wool, sisal, jute...
No testing, no shrinkage, straight in, dry to go

Thats great Martin ;D
but what system are you using?
-
Perhapsw I better buy a Sebo Duo after all.
Ps Martin how is Waterless progresssing.

Martin
Yesterday had similarly to you but on 3 piece used micro fibre cloth, handy bit of kit to have on board also good at agitation! (This is not a dig)

One can ask.
Ian
You haven’t got one?

Hi
Len
I know you wouldn't have a dig, I was expecting a reply from you though.
I have posted before about HWE. It does an amazing job. But I feel that the world is moving faster and faster drying times are required (without the portable hurricane!) Hotels, offices with stacks of PC's and domestic. Everyone wants something and they want it now.
My system is not 'Jesus in a bottle' but I like it and the results speak volumes. Especially when my clients think the tenants have replaced the carpet where I had just cleaned it. I am sure some of you have had this also.
My thoughts on HWE is that it is pushed so much when on courses because the companies have so much invested in it. Lm seems to be scourned yet it was only this 20 min demo on my course that was of the most interest to me. Looking around on the course seeing almost everyone trying to stay awake and on the upholstery one as well, was amusing, but I learnt my new trade.
Of course what I say here will upset some people I feel, some may want to attack but i will be staying LM. I sincerely do not want to go HWE for the forseeable future, who knows that may change.

I made no mention of HWE, only that the micro cloths are a handy bit of kit & good at agitation even the LM systems need this or am I wrong!
All I will say each system has it place within the market place some get the black top more efficiently then others, which one is debatable then it down to personal plus price!
The problem we have here you sing the praises your system, but are still avoiding what was asked what system do you use? Having looked a several LM systems some very impressed with and are equal for the task but some not!
I would not worry about upsetting people on the forum, I do it all the time then I have very broad shoulders!

Hi
Len you misunderstood, only the 1st line was for you.
Yes I of course do agitate.
I am just wondering though...
With H&S getting tighter than a gnats chuff, how long before HWE falls foul of the HSE. It is already getting so you can't even fart without having a pollution order against you, I'm almost scared to get out of bed!

Ducked the question again ;D
-
Come on Martin, what system do you use?? Dry fusion or Texatherm??
-
Thanks for all your comments if you did go off track a bit, but that is what make a good forum/discussion. Being new I assume LM means low maintanence? is this right.
I use hwe and have a tm, but definetly some interesting points about h&s, and in this day and age and this time of year people do what their carpets dry asap.
Martin what system are you using, it sound good and you seem to know your stuff, or are you avoiding this question cos you know all the hwe owners are going to start having ago again.
I'm based in Norfolk, for those that asked.
-
Hi Karl
LM = Low Moisture ;)
-
Hi Martin (606)
You must have realized, that singing the praises of your LM system would result in people asking what system you use!!
And you've now achieved the air of ''mystique'' that you obviously set out to create!!
So come on mate!!

As you know I am new to this forum so looking through past posts......Did Martin ever own up to his system of choice. And Martin I will go head to head with your machine against mine in test conditions anytime...... I have offered this to CFR and Hot Fusion and they have declined so please if you think yours can do the job let me know......... Best, Dave.

I personally will not go near sissal/jute carpeting. The risks outweigh the rewards, and the hassle/stress factor of trying to improve them makes it not viable.
In my opinion, if all carpet cleaners refused to clean high risk carpets/fabrics such as sisal/jute then eventually the consumer will stop buying them due to their uncleanability.
I'm sorry if this sounds a bit defeatist, but I feel it's the only way us carpet cleaners can have any control in what the manufacturers produce.

I saw a LEATHER RUG the other day... strips of real leather made up like a rag rug .... whatever next , what a nightmare. UGH
Trevor

I got one of those once - luckily it was soaked right through in engine oil so I didn't have to clean it - just a letter to the insurance co
-
show a rug in the shop the other day had squares of suede in it, nightmare.
I have found that from switching from my sedo to a host I get a better clean on sissal, so its important to have the correct tools for the job, not just know how to do the job.
Martin never admitted his cleaning system on this post, not sure why?

Martin never admitted his cleaning system on this post, not sure why?
Yeah come dude, out with it.
When starting out in this game I felt that because I was a carpet and upholstery
cleaner I had to take on every job that came my way. Fortunately I never got myself in to any bother.
Now I`m trying to trust my instincts in all walks of life (something us humans are not very good at) If I get a bad vibe about a job and can foresee problems, I`ll just pass it on . Call it defeatist but sometimes life just tough enough :-\
Good luck to us all.

Is Martin even still here????? Hey, I am biased to my machine like I am sure most of us are but I also offer it up for head to head clean offs with other suppliers of different machines, best, Dave.
