Title: Are backpackers misers?

What i mean is, if you have a limited supply of water do you automatically scrimp on your rinsing?

You either scrimp on rinsing or waste time with extra filling up! Give me a van mount any day!!!  ;D

Hi DJW  (TOTALLY IGNORING GROUNDHOG ;D ;D ;D)

Yes I did when I first used my backpack ::)

Now I have got used to it and know how long it will last and can work quicker with pole and brush I use setting 2 all the time.  Gives a good wash and rince and you tend to work quicker.

i have a static system in my van and i have a backpack. But i never use the van system.
The backpack is much easier for getting access to the backs of houses and it means you can clean in a highly pedestrianised area without the fear of people falling over your hoses! ;)

Do you have a trolley or do you wear it like a backpacker?

A backpack is only easier if you have backpack awkward work end of,if you do a lot of estates and terrace houses then it`s probobly quicker, but any house with good access and plenty of window`s don`t kid yourself thinking that a backpack is better than a van mount.

i dont wear it like a backpack your right it would do my back in. instead i just lift it. you can lift it with one hand, then i just put it over one should to the front of the house, clean the front then pick it up and take it around the back and clean all the back.

Im only 23, so maybe its my age, but i have no problem doing this.

But if i used a van system for a huge house, or a secluded commercial premises i think your right, the van system would be better.

Im 28 and reasonably strong but i still couldnt see myself walking around 20 houses with a back pack on filling the thing up every 5 minutes, i would also feel totally daft!!

Vanmount get to first job turn on varistream and work, backpack get to work lugg 18 heavy ltrs around a house and then go back to van and fill it up again, vanmount turn off varistream drive home put my feet up.Backpack go home fill up all the spare barrels i`m going to need for the next day and then take the batterys in and have to charge them for the next days work, then go to the osteopath for lower back pain due to constantly lifting barrels of water around allday long and this is without having to actually clean the window`s which over the course of the day if you`ve done a lot of work can take it out of you.

every 5 minutes... come on.
I know your exaggerating to make a point, but you really dont waste a lot of time.

With a van system you are wasting a little bit of time every stop reeling in your hose, that adds up. Not to mention finding a good parking space, and moving the van every few houses.

To refill the backpack takes literally about 10 seconds and it takes 25 seconds to walk to the van then 25 seconds back to the house. So you waste about a minute every 20 minutes or so, max. Not a lot of time really.

Lifting Barrels ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

NO, No, NO

I use a transfer pump straight from my tank to fill the BP up and fill up my tank at night..............Just like you

LIFT IT :o :o :o :o

Now that WILL DO yer back in :o

I NEVER lift it up full.  I have it mounted on the back of my trailer at back height so all I do is unstrap it back up to it harness on and very slightly lift and away I go.

Mind you I am TWICE your age ;D ;D

If I could carry my backpack I know it is a great way to get to awkward windows.  If you are strong enough then you have got the best system for wfp, residential.  But if you are not strong enough then it is impossible.  You have to look for an alternative method.  But don't knock anyone who is using it just because you can't.  Looking at David Salkield's avatar, if that is him and he carries a backpack, well I am sure he makes as much an hour/or does as much work per man as anyone, whatever their system.

Oh and it isn't based just on the system, it's based on the type of building/client that you are working on/for.  Accessibility etc.

End of argument

Don't know dave as i don't know the current retail price of the pole, the problem we now have is the sl-x, be a shame to spend more on the facelift if the sl-x turns out to be the better pole & it does sound promising. shouldn't be too long to wait now to see. ;)
