I have had something like this...
A couple of years ago I was visiting my sister in Liverpool and I had just got back from the town center bus bus and walked to my sisters house.....about 15 minutes later the door bell goes and PC Plod is at the door....
"Hello" he say's...I have had a report of a smartly dressed guy carrying folder in the area....I explained to him saying that I had just come back from town and indeed was carrying a rather criminally looking folder".....
I imagine one of the locals had reported me...but just goes to show eh?
At least the local copper took the time to investigate it.
Cheers
Dave

In Torquay, if you're a trad cleaner the police stop and watch you, always. If you're WFP, they leave you alone. True!!!!!

I wouldn't assume that just 'cos you're a window cleaner that people think you're a burglar in disguise.
We've had a spate of burglaries in Chepstow, and one of them; honest; happened to a customer of mine around an hour after we'd cleaned their windows; just last month.
The burglar(s) gained entrance through an open light in a conservatory, and when my customer said the window cleaners had just been round before, the police thought this a good thing; since it would be easier to find finger print evidence.
Non was found though; it was thought he/they were wearing gloves (we'd obviously cleaned them well ;D).
anyway all sorted. he was ok. going to let the community officer know we are in the area.
I've just re-read your post; don't let the community police officer know anything; what a complete waste of time they are. Ask them if they've been issued with their swimming arm-bands (just in case a child is drowning and they stand by and watch) or their 'hiding in a cupboard badge' when something nasty looks like it's going to happen.
Blunkett's Bobbies get picked on by small children; they're only good for checking tax discs.
No proper copper with any common-sense would've wasted tax-payers money, to waste your time.

Working in the Midlands some years back, I was with a mate installing Razor wire on the top of the walls of winson green prison, we had been there for 2 days doing this Job, we moved around to the alley way that backs onto some houses, a couple of hours later we were shocked by seeing police with dogs every were, we tried to explane that we were installing the razor wire but mr plod was having non of it, we climbed down onto our sign written lorry and were pomply arrested arm shoved up our back and handcuff put on both of us, we were dragged into a police van and whisked of to the local nick, we showed our prison pass's and still mr plod was having non of it.
2 and a half hours later we were released even with out an apology ::)
Some Gonk over the back of the prison had called the plod and told them they had just seen 2 men cutting the wire and climbing over the wall with ladders, there must have been 30 coppers and 6 dogs to rescue us ;D ;D Now thats were all my Tax's go ::)

I used to have a trad round in Paignton. I was cleaning a three storey town house with a ladder and the window was slightly a jar. I put my hand just inside to hang on as I often did on three storie houses. Just as I was putting my ladder away the police pulled up and asked me some questions. No uniform in those days but I had a sign written van, but because the householder was not in I was arressted on suspicion of bugulary. It was 11 am. They managed to contact the owner eventually and I was released without charge at 5.45 pm!!!! A neighbour had seen me put my hand in!!!! I lost most of the day and not even an apology!!!!
I guess the neighbour was doing the neighborly thing and the police were doing their job but all day in the cells was a bit much. :-[

And look at this! I'm not surprised the coppers take an interest in anyone who IS a window cleaner, OR LOOKS LIKE a window cleaner.
