Title: carpet cleaners
Post by: lifeofgrime on December 09, 2004, 08:50:23 am
Hello everybody,

We currently have very standard Numatic carpet cleaners, which tend to get used about once a month. Recently, we are being asked to clean the clients carpets on a very regular basis.

The Numatic models are not cutting the mustard. Someone has suggested Karcher steam assisted carpet cleaners.

Are they any good? If not, what would you recommend?

In order to answer some of the questions which may already be bubbling;

The areas are usually domestic premises - either one or two bedroomed properties.

The carpets are rarely deep weave and are often heavily stained with faeces, blood, food, grease and general crap (I can appreciate that the effectiveness of the equipment is usually down to the chemical used).

Water is nearly always available on site, howver, they are occasions when we have to outsource it.

The cleaning machine needs to be able to be managed by one man - included lifting the thing on and off his truck.

It also needs to be relatively robust - as you will appreciate, some staff are never careful with equipment which isn't theirs.

Although it is a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but helpful answers would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Lifeogrime,
You really should be looking to a twin vacuum machine with at least 100psi, this with other essentials wont leave much change from £3k if you buy new. If you need to provide each cleaner with a machine it could become expensive.

One thing that instantly sprung to mind is to sub this work (with a mark up  :) )out to a local CC who has equipment to deal with this type of work. To be honest karcher machines wont be much more use that what you have already.

Hi

We supply Numatic, Karcher and Prochem carpet cleaners.

Paul is right that the Numatic machines, although good, do not have the same performance as something like a Prochem Steepro, for example http://www.express-cleaning-supplies.co.uk/oos/carpetcleaningmachines/556054.html

Out of the three, Numatic's strength is vacuum cleaners, Karcher's is pressure washers and Prochem's is carpet cleaners.

The machine is robust, reliable, powerful and is supplied with a free comprehensive training course which would ensure that it's being used in the most effective way.

Please give us a call if you'd like more information or you would like some leasing figures.

Regards

Mike Boxall

I agree with Paul...you should be subbing out this work to someone who knows what they are doing.

Thank you everybody for their input.

Unfortunaetly, we cannot sub out any of the work as our contracts with the clients does not allow it (Local Authorities, The Met, Housing Assocs., etc etc).

If we could, we would.. its certianly not a field in which we consider ourselves knowledgeable.

We would probably only need two machines - our equipment is signed in and out on a job to job basis.

I will investigate the Prochem option for the moment, but please continue posting if you have something to add.

Many thanks!

Luke

Lifeogrime,

A training course is the first thing your cleaners should attend, plenty to choose from and a few manufacturers provide this free with each machine they sell.
Prochem machines imo are very reliable and robust so may be purfect, if so call Mike Boxall.
If your after a high performance portable then speak to Solutions Nick about the Eclipse machine, this type of machine will allow the use of longer hoses without losing too much vacuum performance, meaning you can leave it outside without all the lifting. These machines are not as expensive as you might think and i believe training may come with them too.

Mike,

Do you not think a Rug Doctor would be suitable for this type of work.

I find mine light easy to carry upstairs not clumberson in small spaces. Recovers about 80 % of water Although it does not have twin vacs it does not have to suck water so far.

Please note I also have a twin vac but I do find it clumberson in Housing Assosation type flats
