Thinking about one of Sol's replies If you had one would it help or hinder ? Why ?

Its a gadget, and I love Gadgets ::)
It also would be a time saving piece of equipment, especially for those who run out a lot of hose, I sometimes use over 200 meters on quite a few jobs, and hand reeling that amount, can be a big pain.

I can't see it handling a knot or a twist in the hose particularly well, if motorised then the weight of the reel would be considerable i would think. So not for me thanks.

These are available and I've often thought whether they'd be advantageous to use but can you imagine the damage it would cause through someone's garden or how many hoses you'd shred if a hose got caught on a sharp edge?

You would bring the majority of the hose to you van and feed it onto the hose reel, so you don't get kinks.

I will be getting one when i`ve decieded what van i want,what i will do is just make sure the hose is clear of pots and other objects first,when i`ve finished i walk back near the van with the end of the hose anyway for easier reeling in,i don`t normally have this problem with most of my work as there is good access.Sometimes reeling in the hose feels harder work than cleaning the windows and if you add up how much you reel in over the course of the week-month it`s weel worth it no matter what the cost.

Sorry but where do i get one from and how much reel can be put on.

Unless custom built your only looking at a reel that might take up to about 30-40mtrs of minibore if your lucky from what i`ve seen,and if you use 1/2 hose forget it.

what about a hose reel that is a bit like a tourque setting on a drill. you know the one, when you put a screw into the wall once the screw stops spinning the drill just clicks so not to do the screw head any damage. if the hose is being reeled in and it gets caught the reel mechanism could keep spinning but the reel wilkl stay still. meaning no damage to plant pots or hoses ;)

When I've got one they'll all want one. It's part and parcel of having the perfect van and the perfect or optimum set up.
I love things that work jeff. My vikan brush works. My xtell 17' works. Side opening doors on my scudo mean my reel is fixed above the tank, that works. The varistream pump and heater also work.
I didn't invent any of those things, but I think they are all great, and all good value for money.
One thing I haven't sorted, the front of my van envelopes, payment slips, clipboard ,pens,diary, they go everywhere when I brake. Anyone got any front of van office ideas- that work-.

You could try "the couriers won't charge me for sending them out" or "the factory is having a half price sale" either of those good points would work :D :D

I use a cordless drill to wind in my hose . wee cheap £15 drill, charge it once a week.
The drill has a socket adapter on it with a 17mm socket . and the handle on my reel has a 17mm nut on it!!!

We had motorised hose reels in our vans when we used pure water, somewhat similar to the one pictured but not as large, They held about 200ft of 1/2in diameter hose,and were run off the van battery, If you are using the van yourself they are a great help although the chains on ours had a tendancy to come undone expecially if there was a good bit of pressure against like the hose got stuck somewhere, If you have employees be prepared for them to be used to pull the hose and pole back to the van every now and then or the odd table or lawn chair, even a few freshly planted rose bushes once,
the optimal way to use them we found was to bring all the hose within sight of the van preferably directly behind, the reel was set to a button on the frame that held the reel in place, push the button with one hand and guide the hose with the other

I phoned once and spoke to someone called Anna. She can only have been about sixteen, but very keen to add a gardiners goose neck to my order. Next time I phoned I asked where she was ..... out in the shed biulding the poles to be sent out...
Thats good window wonder but what holds the drill in place and provides the counter force? You are going to say you hold it aren't you.Also your finger would have to be on the trigger so your body position wouldn't be very different from winding. To gain an advantage you need to be able to step away from the reel to guide the hose in.
I do agree though the simplest solutions are best. If I'm wrong in the above say.

been using one for about a year ,when my luv trolley (motorisd wheel barrow) stopped working i used the motor from barrow bolted on platform press button and hey presto

If I was designing one it would have to be push and pull, so that it would push the hose out in the right direction and then pull it back from a remote controlled motorised armchair. :D

To be honest an electic window cleaner without one is a bit of a swiz anyway.And I've got strong suspicions you don't turn your water on while you're scrubbing.

get a plastic storage box with lid ,glue two strips of velcro to base ,glue other two strips to bench seat on scudo (or get seat cover if your vans newer)

I got a price for a 60 meter 1 inch motor reel for my transfer hose, twas £900+vat. Purtek
The reason why I wouldn't have one would be the possiblilty of you hand going in and getting mangled. Not running up and down the ladders you need to get a bit of a work out some where.
