Title: Ro Slowed Down
Post by: Alex Wingrove on February 19, 2008, 05:43:20 pm
My ro has slowed right down, so i did what any self respecting person would do, and change all the filters, and membranes

but its still slow, it froze up last Sunday, has this anything to do with it

Thanks

Alex

Is your waste pipe frozen?

I think its the cold weather also as mine seems to be slower when the weather's cold.

the colder water gets the more dense it becomes and the increase in density reduces the amount of water passing through the membrane which we notice as a reduction in production of pure water.

Take it into a warm shed and make water there.

If it froze up the membranes they will be pretty useless.

You will need new ones if that happened.

i leave my merlin outside all the time it is totally unprotected from frost, when my storage tanks are full i turn off the water supply to it and most of the water drains out of it never had a problem. you get problems if you leave things full of water then if it freezes it will do damage.

water is denser when cold which in turn takes  #longer to go through the filter...

It may be it is full of ice or there is some ice in it.

Our water meter shattered yesterday at our unit and it was minus 5 at ten this morning.

Wait for it to thaw or warm it up slowly and then go from there

Who knows

Only a suggestion - my unit and water supply is frozen solid and has been for 4 days now - we had standby water for this very reason.

I cleared a delivery pipe that we use to pump water into the vans - thick with ice.

Managed to get it all clear and a pile of ice on our drive - brought it back to the house so I could lay it in the sun to make sure it was clear.

The ice had all day today to melt - it is still there

If your RO has become that frozen then you need to change the filters again.
