Title: My bleeping awful Ninja
Post by: cleanability on February 18, 2008, 08:23:37 pm
My biggest waste of money and biggest mistake was buying a Ninja. And buying a Ninja with all the extras. For starters all the extras make it way too heavy. Also theres no hour meter, no temp gauge and the capacity of the tanks is pathetic. If that wasnt bad enough the water pump packed in after 6 moths and they tried to not replace it coz i hadnt  had it serviced by them. Anyway, its 18months old now and the water pump has packed in again. What a completely awful machine. I've now dug out my 8yr old slightly battered Alltec Pro Plus and its like meeting up with an old friend. Fantastic machine.

I think Chris Straker had the same problems, I was considering a Ninja before purchasing a Scorpion, I am glad I took his advice as I have seen many comments like yours.

So whats my best bet to replace the water pump with? Dont care about water pressure too much. Just want a pump that will last lol And i thought great no brushes on the water pump wot a bonus when i bought it lol

Chris, I never had a Ninja, but I often replaced pumps on various other machines , sometimes after six months or maybe even less. I started doing two things and have never replaced a pump since then.
No. 1 . I never use powders in my solution tank anymore, just plain water.
No 2.  I only fill with hot water from the household tap and then use an in line heater if necessary to heat the water further.
I have found that by doing those two things it will prolong pump life considerably.

I know a few people with Ninj portables.  1 has all the added extras and the others are the normal ones.  All of them have worked near faultless since new and some are about 5 years old now.  I know the one with all the extras always uses Prochem Crystal Green.  I think its the same as just about any machine.....some are good ones & others are bad.  I bought a HM Spitfire 3.2 which ran faultless and i had it running upto 16 hrs per day some days.  Lee Gundry had same model & he said it was always having faults yet the VAST majority are faultless.

Richie.

Any machine make can have good one or duds ........................ what you need is confidence the back up is in place  :-\

Never had that with my Diamondback but i take it to Barton Electrical and would not part with the machine now ...... even if it is on my subs bench.................. i did get it as it held more water than the Ninja and looked less like a wheelie bin  ;D

Had my Ninja 17 months. Had a leak from the pump ending up with me claiming on my insurance for the custy's damaged solid wood floor. My engineer fixed the problem but said getting details of parts/advice from Ashby's was like getting blood out of a stone. Seems they like to keep all their servicing "in house" but then I would have been without my machine for longer if I had to send it to Ashby's every time I want it servicing. Plus the cost of sending it and the loss of income from not having it to use.

(They told me they were aware of the problem which has caused the leak and told me they would have put this right if I had sent the machine back for a normal 6 month service.)

Apart from that everything working ok (touch wood). Just replaced the first vacuum which was just about to die, but otherwise everything seems to be working for longer without replacing than my old Prochem machine.

I have been told by my servicer that if you change the bell end on the pump including the new brushes every 6 months at a cost of £35.00 then the pump should last forever because a pump only blows when the bushes wear out and you get metal touching metal thats what shorts and blows the pump.
Might be total rubbish but thats what i was told.

Never had a problem with Ninja pumps, but the vac' motors go through brushes pretty quickly and can cause chaos, always happens when you're about to start on a big job !!!!!!!

Avoid all powder solutions as these cause untold grief (they never disolve fully) with pumps on machines and sprayers.

What size pump  do you need.

Agreed its a pain and I think they should last a year.

If its a shuflo one take it up with shuflo.
