:) Hi guys and gals,
i am just gone six months pregs with 2nd child and always wanted own business. Had a go at EOT cleaning 12months ago but gave it up as was still working each day till 2 and although i wanted a bit of extra cash it just didnt work out timewise. Anyway still work in an estate agents with a very busy lettings dept who i know will give me all the EOT cleans i want, and have had three collegaues leave to open up own business so lots of work hopefully will come my way.
So i have decided that come baby being 3mths old in Sept and when other little un goes back to school, and whilst still on maternity leave (with another 3-5mths use of company car) i will start up again with the view of not retunrning to job if all goes well. It will give me three months to do jobs and start earning (as i found most of the EOTs i have done in past took a few weeks to pay via deposit system they had at the time,.
SOOOO WHATTTTT??? i hear you saying.........
I need help. I only did a few jobs last time, and need some guidence, documents, information from trusted experienced, knowledgeable, wise men and women like u guys (creep creep).
If any of you would b prepared send me anything that you think may b of help, i wud b most grateful, i really wanna make a go of this now, im sick of lining other peoples pockets. Im 34, in house sales, which is mostly commission based and the staff that are leaving are being replaced by spotty, wise arse, arrogant twenty one year olds and im feeling a little too old, tired and just not motivated anymore, selling the houses of liverpool football players or looking for them to buy just doesnt impress me like the younguns (however i will b canvassing their houses just b4 they move in ha ha). This is a real opportunity for me as i couldnt give up my job b4 as big mortgage etc etc
im impressed with this site as u can learn a lot and some of u have obviously been in the business for a long time and know what u are talking about so wud b very gratefull!!!!!!!!!

So you're on maternity leave from your old company being paid AND still have the use of company car and benefits. No doubt you are also accruing holiday time and pay which you'll obviously take before you leave. This company is acting in good faith and within the law while you take off the maximum time possible to start up a company on your own.
Why on earth would you want to start a company when you know there are people like you about who take the pee out of companies and the system. Hope the same happens to you one day.
Help from me.
Not a chance

hi gary, sorry maybe i shoud ve made u aware of all the circumstances as if u knew how i had been treated by my employer over the past few years u would prob not have been so opinionated about it. i have worked for a large corporate firm for eight years, i have been loyal, hardworking and even managed a branch for them at their request for a while which i gave up to return to my old position due to them not putting up my wages to take into account extra workload as promised after nine months. when i got pregnant with my first child and could only return part time a younger full timer was taken on at a much higher hourly rate and they had the cheek to ask me to train them, which being an idiot i did without complaint as i am not one to rock the boat. i have recently come off my usual role as it is not one that you can do with a big belly and what have they done? changed my commission scheme to one where i will earn nowhere near what i could and shud as they are not allowed to discriminate against pregnant workers but yet again her i am being ripped off. Now this is not a way of seeking revenge, and although i do have a case aginst them, i dont c the point, this is just me looking out for myself and trying to find a way out of a company take people on work them to death and then spit them out, our branch alone has been thru 27new starters in 12mths as they wont put up with the conditions.
By the way..... they do not pay maternity pay, they pay the least u can get away with for as least time as poss ie 6wks and apart from
the car THEy GIVE NO BENEFITS. they have even changed my car to basic model as this full timer is getting the better one. if i were to tell u the rest i wud be here all day.
my colleagues will give me this work as they know how i have been treated since becoming a mum and are thrilled for me.
so please dont think im ripping off my employer i am not a cheater im just looking out for number one having looked after number too for far to long.

ps try acruing hols when u already have children who needs looking after during a two week half term, and easter hols, there are no holiday entitlement left!!

You may in your opinion, have been poorly treated, but using the companies car to engage in another enterprise would invalidate the insurance.
Could i suggest that if you are going to start you own firm, that you seek help and advice from other professionals.
There are far too many people who cut corners in all sorts of business types, but the cleaning industry is one of the worst.
Get some training, in cleaning, h & s, business management and take advice from the likes of your bank manager, accountant, insurance advisers and your local janitorial suppler.
Good luck!
Regards
Rob

Nice first post Westinghouse :P even managed to find a post that was dead and buried 6 months ago.
Did find it a tad hard to understand what you are saying though, the spelling is THAT bad.
Try to write a little slower and perhaps your next post will be more comprehensible.
Look forward to your eloquent reply ::)

i bet ull call the police if your wife farts in bed !!
I wondered why the swat team had me surrounded at 2am! lol
I wonder if this girl did get set up. I agree with Garyj she should come across an employee who uses her resources to do this. Westinghouse obviously doesn't run a business (oh nearly forgot, you need to be able to read and write for that! :P)

Firstly, Hi She777,
I agree with Robert Parry, yes you should get some training in cleaning, H&S and other areas.
I do agree that from an employers point of veiw, we wouldnt like what you are doing..using other companies resources for your own benefit, what ever has happened in the past with your existing employer. We would not like it done to us.
However putting this aside, as I am sure there must have been other people on this forum who have at one time used an employer in some way if they think about it...so you probably are not alone... its just the fact that you were open about actually doing it.
So, what is it that you need to do, well follow roberts advice, Its good advice, ive read many of his posts and can tell he is experienced.
You also need to look at what market you are going to target...domestic or commercial. Or both!
What services are you offering... cleaning has a wide variety!
Advertising ... yellow pages ... websites ... you need to promote your services or no one will know you exist. Do you have a budget for advertising -
what about ROI
Depending on the type of cleaning you are offering you will need certain types of insurance. All will vary in price. You will definatley need public liability, and employers liability if employing people.
Think of a business name ...Are you going to be a sole trader or a LTD company... theres more things to do if you are a LTD company. Like company formation etc. This will cost about £100 ish or more depends where you go.
What about VAT?
I could go on...but i wont. as my cuppa is going cold.

Can you tell me
If you employ someone and say you pay them £40k a year after 11 months they become pregnant At the apropriate time she takes maternity leave, how much in cash is the company liable for during the absence , plus of course the cost of cover.
If the person above was an employee even if her payments were commision only I would have thought for maternity leave purposes she would have been entiled to an average of her income per month.

You get 90% of your wages for first 6 weeks, and then 90% of your wages or £120 ( whatever is lower ) for the next 33 weeks.
I think there is also something after this as well ???
-
The bit after that mainly consists of sleepless nights and crappy nappies ???
