Title: Help with door knocking....
Post by: stu10 on February 15, 2008, 11:36:40 am
wondering if any one can help,

just started setting up a round, ive been leaflet dropping and door knocking, ive managed to get a few customers. however does any one have any tips on the best thing to say to the customers to get them to agree a quote there and then.
Once i have given the price, alot of them are asking me to leave my card with them and they will call me back later but never do.

Any other canvassing tips would be much appreciated!!

Thanks

Whenever somebody seems interested and takes your card always always get their name and phone number. That way you can call them.

If they don't want to give name and number forget them...they're time-wasters.

If you give a price there and then and they want a card so they can ring you later,

in my opinion they have rejected your quote,

i would say your prices may be a little too high,

its hard to balance what to charge,

if you get every quote your prices may be too low,

if you dont get many jobs  after your quotes, you may be charging too much.

finding that balance may be the key here.

Gary.

look smart BUT not flash

politness is allways a start, if they say " oh we have a window cleaner", they dont want to hear how good you are and how bad the current guy is, just move on, as your wasting your time

if they ask for a card, it normally means they are just being polite , you might get a call back, but its rare

** the above points are well known in the doorknocking game, i do happen to agree with them though

After leaving your leaflet , go back a few days later and ask " sorry to disturb you but did you get my window cleaning leaflet that i left " ( picked up 3 customers tonight )        Yes you have to make contact and talk to them !

Trouble is you could get £1000,s of work , but you just cant be bothered ! I hate knocking on doors , but it works ! Just a note that the advert in local paper has been very quiet for last two weeks !

Or you arent giving them enough information on the service you provide to justify the price you have quoted.

Are you quoting on a 4 6 or 8 week clean, make it clear to the customer,
break the price down so that it sounds more affordable...only £2.25 a week i call every 6 weeks. If you think youre gonna miss them and you want the work stretch the job to 8 weekly and reduce the weekly price to match your 8 weekly clean price.

Add value eg all my work is guaranteed if the windows arent spotlessly clean every time give me a call and ill be out straight away to put any problems right.

Will you be cleaning the frames? maybe give their front door a wipe down every visit.

I could post a very detailed reply on this subject for you, however cant be bothered with the nonsense from certain members today.

Good luck, relax, have some fun and get yourself some work.

Mark
