Title: VAX 6131
Post by: CLEAN-MASTER on February 13, 2008, 08:10:44 pm
I'm looking for an occasional carpet cleaner & am thinking about the Vax 6131, does anyone use one? or have any other budget options?

Thanks in advance.

For little more you could pick up a Karcher on ebay - make sure its a good un cause it will be 2nd hand to get your price.
If you but microspltters, rather then detergent, and use according to manufacturers recommendation ie prespray, brush in, leave for 15-20 minutes then just use the machine with clean water to rinse. No sticky residue at all.

Thanks for your reply Joe.
I'm now thinking about getting a numatic George, should make a better job?

Hi Robin
With the George you are still at the bottom end of the range
It depends on how much carpet cleaning you going to do.
If its a odd lounge carpet every month maybe ok.
Ok too for gettng out to suck up spills and do the amin walkways in a house regularly.
Problem is they dont really have enough suck and therefore you can easily overwet the carpet causing problems.
Something like this currently on Ebay is better from the Numatic range iten no 220199632381
there is another one also on Ebay - same model I think.
I have a smaller version A CTD572 I think it is, same motors, just lower in height.
I started with it 16 yers ago but for the last 5 years its been like a spare and a spotter machine for me.
Cost even now about £520 +vat.
Will last you ages and do a resonable job.
I reiterate what I said before - forget using detergents ie Vax own solutions, use microsplitters - detergent free non sticky residue. Brilliant cleaning fluids.
Let me know if you want to know where from.

Joe,

Thanks alot for your helpful reply.
I am expecting to do just an odd job (1 or 2/month) so hopefully the George will be adequate but if I start doing more jobs than expected I will quickly upgrade as you suggest.

The George comes complete with 'Dr Carpet Pro super concentrate', do you know if that works well?

Robin.

I am not conversant with Dr Carpet Pro but suspect it woll be a detergent.
The danger is using too much.
If you put too much in the machine it will clean the carpets fantastically well but the problem is the sticky residue, in a few weeks they will look like they have never been done (possibly worse).
Thats the difference with Microsplitters - no detergents..
go to www.retormate.co.uk - on the main page you will see the advert for Nemesis Super. John Kelly will sell this in 1 litre bottles. Its a concentrate and 1 litre makes 150 litres. Meaning in a tub like George you wont need much - 80ml for 10 litres - its amazing. Costs about £8 for a litre plus vat and p&p
