Hi Chris, if I were you I wouldn't make too bigger thing of it. I normally just put a little note onto their bill as most of my customers are at work when I call. Something like 'As from next Month the price will be £xxx, Thankyou Groundhog.'
If they are in I will just mention it as I'm leaving after collecting payment.
It works for me, so far I've only ever had one customer cancel after a price increase! :)

In line with our annual (periodic) price review, as of (date) your account will now be charged at _ _ _ _ _

I was going to put my prices up in April BUT after the reason press reports of the economy! and our trade being non essential services, think it would be a good to not to put them up this year

The price of my beer has gone up again. I need to pass this on.... ;D

On a more serious note, I thought I'd put prices up around April. However, in retrospect I should have done so in the new year. I thought post Xmas, credit card bill time was a bad time to increase prices, but I was so surprised how many customers asked if I had put prices up when I cleaned for them in January. "No, still the same", said I, through gritted teeth :)

I already have
Dear Customer ____________

As I said earlier try to avoid making too big a deal of the increase, just a simple hand written note on their bill should do it, avoid putting your phone number next to it and inviting them to cancel, thats asking for trouble!! ;)
-
dear customer
From next month the price of having your windows cleaned will be increasing to ₤ . I believe the new price is still good value for money and would like to thank you for you custom over the years.
Many thanks
THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS!
Never apologise for a price increase because you are not doing anything wrong and dont let the current situation put you off raising prices because most people will be expecting it.
-
Dear ................
Due to the increased cost in running a small business ( mainly insurance costs), regretfully we must raise the cost of our sevice to you.
We have avoided this price increase for as long as possible however we are unable to prolong the inevitable.
Enclosed please find our new price for your review. The new price will be applied to your next clean.
We wish to thank you for your valued custom and hope that you will understand the need for this price increase.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards
R. Stornaway
