Title: A Little Concerned
Post by: Macarthur on December 03, 2004, 03:40:55 pm
Hi there,

I need some advice from as many of you as possible.

Not sure if I have made a big mistake or not.  You see, just a little over two weeks ago I booked some advertising space (quarter page size) in  the Thomson Local, at a cost of around £1600 to be paid over an 8 month period.  Now as luck would have it I just happened to go back and read some of the threads on this forum with regard to Thomson Local and Yellow pages advertising and was a little concerned to say the least.

 :-\ What should I do?

Is it to late for me to cancel etc?

Thanks

Nigel.

Hi Nigel

get in touch quickly and plead poverty, if they haven't gone to print you will be able to stop it/ reduce it

Best regards Nick

Hi,

I tried Thompsons twice , once in London and once down here, both times it felt like the invisible advert. :(

I can't remember anyone ever saying T was any good whereas with YP you get a mixed response.

However Yellow Pages was not much better until 3rd try and now I have opposite problem of general time wasters and tight wads.I have had a couple of serious jobs though.

It may be too late but I would think YP is much better if you want to go the directory route.

Cheers,

Doug

Thank you all for all of your advice, I will give them a call Monday, plead poverty, tell them that my business is no longer and that I am seeking further employment.

Thank god I discovered this forum.

All the best,

Nigel.

do none of you have any conciense at all. Suck it up . You make decisions you live with them and learn,
 not lie your way out.

Just my opinion.

GW, I notice you help people grow their service bussiness.

A new Service Bussiness needs cash resources if a little white lie saves some I believie that is aceptable.

I do not believe that sellars of advertising space always tell the truth.

They catch you when you are not ready for them.

So sometimes if directory has not been printed its fine to change your mind.

Nigel,

I have a small advert in the thomson. I have found that it has worked for me as we do carpet cleaning and domestic cleaning. I am getting one off cleans including carpet cleaning. Considering the thomson was only delivered in late Sept I have now paid for my advert.

GW,

The way I read this guy's post its Thomsons who have no concience.

£1600.00 for a 1/4 page advert ??? ???

Nigel,

Dont worry too much, Thomsons isnt one of the worst books you can go in, but for that kind of money I would expect at least 1/3 page advert in colour.

As long as you get the advert right and it stands out you should be OK.

I have a CC in my area who swears by it, but you never know if he is telling the truth.
