Title: new digital varistream- any good?
Post by: macmac on February 07, 2008, 06:58:24 pm
My 3.5 year old 75psi shurflo pump box gave in on me for the first time ever yesterday. tried the most obvious things but to no avail. anyway, i havent the time at the mo' to mess with it so i ordered a new one from cleantech (my original supplier). they now come with 100psi shurflo's & a digital varistream, same again, all ready to go in one box.
Got to admit i'm a bit weary as there never seems to be a shortage of posts with varistream problems of one sort or another. I can't do with hassle, i need a system that works every time without fail (which is what i've had up to now).

So, i have 80m of minibore (8mm) & this (tomorrow) new 100psi + digital varistream. Is there anything i need to know?

I have a mk2 varistream and havn`t had 1 prblem with it,the digi one is better as theres no dial it`s numbered as you know. The one i have is a twist dial and it does feel as if it`s not always on what it reads,by this i mean the dials on them are a bit loose so if it say`s 11.00 it might be 11.30 if you know what i mean, you won`t have this trouble with the new 1 as you just choose the number you usually use so you know it`s set exactly where you want it.

Yeah, looking forward to it, it's what the market has needed. when others have been looking to match the facelift ( & failed ) Alex has made the right move in developing a pole to better all other poles. oppertunity was there & alex took it, no sympathy for the others. ;)
(that is, ofcourse, if it is as good as expected)

New varistream is better than the old one, mine seems more accurate easy to adjust and never need to take the back off. Worked straight out of the box with the factory set pressure (unlike my dial one).

P.s. there is no guarantee with it if you tell them your hose is less than half inch diameter.

I have one now.  After my flowjet pump died I bought a 100 psi shurflo and digi varistream.
Now I didnt have a varistream on the flowjet it just ran  and cut off with the pressure switch.  Which was good, as soon as I opened my flow valve on the pole I had good pressure.

Now I have this varistream the pressure aint what it used to be.  If I run it above 3 it just keeps hitting the max pressure and cutting out.  And the flow at the end of the pole will dip as the pump comes on and off.

It is workable with it like this but I have got used to the pressure of the flowjet as and when I needed it.

MAybe I am doing something wrong.  I can see the benefits, like the pump not running flat out all the time.

Maybe I'll get it right one day

Both of mine seem to have a long time lag between opening the pole valve and pressuring up.

I had a mk 2 varistream and just could not get used to it.
Ended up selling it on ebay.

I like my 60psi  flojet pumps they come on when you want and cut off when you want.
I with my minibore i dont need to muck about with flow rates its perfect as it is.

I would not get another varistream no need for the way my system is set up.

Here go's
Ready made pump box from cleantech= 210 + vat
This includes 100psi shurflo pump, new digital varistream, all fixtures & fitting ready made up (professionally, including strainer).
Basicaly, you just plug it in & away you go, no messing. Plus the biggest benefit IMO is in winter you just unplug & take in house to prevent any freezing probs.
Like i said, my old pump box from cleantech lasted 3.5 years & did not fail once in this time.
Anyway, was concerned about pressure problems after reading so many posts about varistreams (maybe it's the older ones). i run 80m of minibore (8mm) & power source is van cig' lighter socket.
Well, been using it today & i have to use it at only setting number 1 otherwise there is too much flow! I'm going to try setting 0 next week as number 1 was actually a tad too much for my liking, & i'm not one for a low flow rate.

So far so good & it's a lot quieter than my old pump. ;)

I paid £160 for pump and varistream from williamson pumps ltd.  Very helpfull chap called andrew seemed to know his stuff and I got a free strainer and enough fittings for connection.  Next day delivery too.

I still need to increase the pressure tho as it is a too weak for my liking
