Got Prochem 2008 catalogue and was surprised to see they have a section where the sell D.I.Y Hire products for people to buy when they hire a rug doctor etc.
Whats your thoughts?

Ok if you are a cleaning supplier. I would not do it as a carpet cleaner. Why give away work. I do love it though when a customer hires one from B&Q then makes a hash of it. Thanks B&Q for helping to give us work

When you do there training course, the go on about using burn tests, float tests all the time. Making sure you use the correct product for the job, Leaving at a safe ph etc.
Then they go and start selling extraction pro in litre containers with a different name to joe public, so is it really so inportant what you use on certain jobs, they dont think so!

If Joe Public uses it then nacks his carpet they will come back with did you follow the instructions (seen the same thing with vanish). If we go there and use the wrong product and nack joe's carpet he will expect us to replace it. Only ever did burn tests on the prochem course after a while you get to know what carpet is. I always use right product and procedure and still sometimes refer to Prochem course notes

they have been selling hire machines for a number of years.
at one stage I think they were promoting the idea as franchise or stand alone opportuntity in Exchange and Mart

Gerry,
Do you ALWAYS know what the fibre construction is just by looking?
Mark

I'd be surprised if anyone can tell exact fibre type/construction/mix by looking at it - I have trouble sometimes even after burntest - there are potentially so many different combinations.

They are not selling directly to the public. They are supplying people, (some of which are CC's) who hire out carpet cleaning machines as part of their business, and they have done this for many years.

I leave or sell spotter bottles so i am guilty of the same thing ::)

Cheers guys for your views, chris may i ask where you get your spotters from?
Do you leave them after all jobs or just with regular customers?
It is something i may look into.
Cheers mark

I get my spotters from http://www.cleansmartsupplies.co.uk/acatalog/Promo_Spot_Remover.html
Give to customers who spend more then say £80
-
Have got them from Cleansmart with printed waterproof labels ........ work out about £1.80 each with postage, vat etc.
Cheap enough for giveaways but customers asking for 4 at a time @£9.99 ........... offer regulars a discount on this but still a very good earner 8)
