There are quite a few lady window cleaners about, Tosh's missus being one of them, and there are a few others on the forum too.
With the advent of WFP I've no doubt those numbers have increased over the last couple of years.
With trad of course it was much more the domain of the man, physical strength is needed when you are lugging around heavy ladders, not so of course with WFP.
For those that do go into it, it also has the benefit of being a great job for working around a growing family.

There are quite a few couples who work as a team. I don't ever recall seeing any women working on their own.
I guess the problem would have been the ladders in the past. Lugging the ladders around is quite heavy work. When I have seen couples working in the past its always the man who does the tops.
Now that we have WFP I suppose its wide open to women as well. Thats actually is quite a worrying prospect because of the sheer numbers that could bring into the trade. Also women often have a lower earnings expectation than men generally and would be prepared to bring prices down to get work.

My wife works with me all the time now.
Has done part time for 20 years.
At one point I had her and my 2 sons and daughter helping! Oh the good old days!
-
i am one of those said female window cleaners!I got into it because i was working as a nursery nurse on minimum wage and nothing but stress and paperwork!
I now work with mr scrim, have been for 18 months and never looked back! Not liking the cold weather though!roll on summer!!
Mrs scrim :-*

Got roped into helping Alex with builders cleans which I actually enjoy doing! Haven't done so much recently since having two more babies in the past three years - strange that! Only done first floor (two storeys) WFP but did learn to squeegee & applicate first.

Hoping to get my wife involved as the business grows. would prefer to pay her than have the money leave the family.
-
My wife has been window cleaning for about 9 years, now taking it easy getting manicures etc, just about geting her rewards for helping grow my business.
-
Yeah, looking to get my missus involved as well. She's keen to change careers but we haven't got enough work for both of us just yet.
How do you guys find working with your partners? Is it ok?
-
my wife worked with me many years ago when i was growing the business and our first child was just starting nursery ( and free child care with gran ) .
it was a good idea and kept all the wages with us , rather than pay someone else .
we did grow the business , and take on more staff .
working together all day / every day , then home together ( ie together 24/7 ) was a pain ( claustrophobic , if thats the right word ).
seperated now , though i cant blame it on working together .

I have had my wife all the time with me since about july after getting rid of my son and she enjoys it and can clean windows well.
I wfp the top and she does the bottoms traditional but if she is getting the money i will WFP the bottoms she has not done also.
She could already clean windows as she has been out with me quite a few times over the last 20 years.
It works out good we stop at a pub sometimes for a drink and a bite to eat then when she wants to do her shopping we do it on the way home saves me going shopping on a saturday.

The wife works with me full time too. Apart from when one of the sprogs is ill.
All the old codgers on the round seem to flirt terribly with her too which is funny to watch but she does seem to do well at christmas time with the tips.
When it comes to door to dooring she picks up more work than me too.
The downside to this happy story is if I get finished early now theres no sneaking off for a pint. :( :(
-
My wife works with me part time too, has done for a while now, she got in on it after getting bored with Tesco Management, its a better life now so she says :)

was she on "bored of directors " and is it true that every little helps ?
-
My wife works with me too, part time after a 13 year absense! (children). I tell my custy's I've brought her out of retirement!!

Wor Lass is definately an assett, but also a pain in the ass.
On balance, my advice is never to work with your Missis.
-
i started window cleaning with my girlfriend. It was her that got me started with it. I thought it was great. Job done quicker for the same amount of money which all went in the same pot.
She also got on better with many of my customers than i did, which was a big plus.
The downside if any was that i sorta depended upon her being around and it was harder to motivate myself when i was going out on my own. I'd recommend it if you are starting up and working traditionally.
Split up since though. Not because of window cleaning.
-
It seems one or two have split up..... do you think working together really is good for you?,.... i love my girl to bits but i know she would not work with me... too embarrassed i dare say... but she wont say that herself..... you know when you know lads right? ;)
-
Wor Lass was trudging round a building site yesturday doing a couple of builders cleans, wearing a hard had and high viz vest.
She's only 5' 1" tall and weighs just over 8 stone (she runs marathons and lifts weights; so she's no softy), but she did feel embarrassed with all these big burly builders watching her.

Im thinking about joining my boyfriend in his business but not 100% sure about it, can anyone give me any advice?

:o :o no way ;D

we work together as a partnership. On the road hubby is the boss, in the office wifey is the boss. You have to have a really strong relationship and would suggest that if your personal relationship is prone to arguments, then think deeply before committing to 24/7. I can do highrise wfp (but prefer not to) I can and do work alone at times (but prefer not to). Sometimes the benefit of being the "mouthpiece" is clear to see, sometimes it does not help as some custies think women can't clean windows....but that is their opinion. all in all it works well.
-
Theres no way on earth i could have my missus with me 24/7 she does my paperwork, Looks after the kids does the dinner and lives a happy life. Just the way i like it
-
my missus is taking more responsibilities with my company. all the general data input, banking and some of the organisation side. I'm hoping to get a unit and office to work from this year so i'm sure she will get more involved in the customer service side also.
She did help me one or two days on the actual cleaning side but it nearly killed her ;D ;D i did chuck her into helping on 4 big hotels in 1 day. she loved it!! ;D ;D

One good thing about the Mrs working with you is you dont have to kiss her goodbye in the morning........ ;D ;) ::)
-
missis bn working with me bout 13 yrs .she does bottom windows n collect money .brillent . cuse spelling ,she is really something the best thing since sliced bread
-
I tell my wife every day, "Get yer coat I'm taking you out for the day lunch included".
She still thinks it's funny!
-
Hmm, might be an idea, get the missus working for me on the office side of things. Deal with paperwork, bills, telephone calls, canvassing, leaflet drops etc, and help out now and then on 2 man (er sorry i mean person) jobs.

brill thread!
to late now coz we have the baby but i just told Mrs about this thread and she said that would of be great to work together.
she worked at the R.S.P.C.A full time as a fully trained vet nurse for minimum wage. why shouldn't a woman do our job? after all in involves speed, planning, skill and a level head among other attributes. women have them in abundance for 3 weeks of the month!

Its not really them doing the job fair play to them. Personally like i said for one i wouldnt want here working with me and second i wouldnt let her

when ever my old man advertises for staff he gets loads of calls from eastern european girls. i used to say 'go on dad i'll do her share of the work if she dont pull her weight'!
