Title: any of you retained firefighters to?
Post by: LWC on February 05, 2008, 06:58:29 am
do any of you do this? just thought as a window cleaner we would be superb for us on call.

just the only problem for me is i live too far away from the nearest fire station now to be on nights, and in the day im ll over the place so i dont think i could be there. i probably only spend about 2 weeks in town. the other times id be off all over the place.

but just the thought of being on call i think would be great. earning start from around £5k a year when your on call and upwards.

so any of you do it/done it?

what did you think?

and if any of you do know, would it even be worth me applying or not?

Mornin',

Been there. done that, got my helmet on the shelf ;)

Great fun and good to work in a team. Exciting when the alerter goes, racing to catch the pump ;D.

But, in our case, just imagine:
It's been awfull weather for the first 2 days of the week and you are 2 days behind.
It's a beautiful day and your on a roll ;)- 12.00 mid day - BLEEP, BLEEP, BLEEP. Here We Go!. You are 200 yards from your van with a backpack FULL of water.  You leg it with your FULL pack and pole. Chuck the BP in the van.  Your in a rush so the strap gets a bit taffled >:( you chuck the pole in, dive in the van and set off.  Then you hit the lunch time traffic >:(  You eventually get to the station with the pump in the bay, lights flashing, engine reving, and the Sub yelling COME ON.  You dive in the Kit room drag on yer kit grab yer handbag, dive in the pump. Few made it!
"Where we off lads?"
"Stack fire!"
"Oh, Ek................That's the rest of this beautiful day gone."
Right, you get back at about 7.00pm and Sub is on the phone to control.
"OK, I'll muster up a relief crew for tomorrow ::)"

I was out from 6.00am one Thur and then on cover shifts untill Sun.

In the summer when the when the weather is dry you can get a field fire and be out ALL DAY!

OK, it's not bad money. But don't cover the window money when you loose out a lot.

GREAT FUN THOUGH ;) ;)

Hi
Its usualy day time cover that is needed.
So if you can get to the fire station in 5 mins during the day then you could do it
