Post by: Pole2pole on January 30, 2008, 02:57:19 pm
I'm not having a pop at alex or gardiners at all. Ok,got that straight. Just can't understand why, after i've clamped my "one eared" o rings onto my hose onto my ez snap connectors, they still keep leaking? I couldn't clamp them any harder if i tried. Am I doin something wrong? Help me out here Big Al ;)

This is hardly condusive to remedying this situation Jeff. I've sprung a leak here and every day when i go into the bank with my millions, the gorgeous gals behind the counter keep pointing and laughing at me. Before long i'm gonna need counselling and compo n stuff  ;D

Then if its still leaking, there is still a problem ;D

First of all is the ring the correct size for the fittings you are putting it on? Including the hose? And is the hose end in good nick? If your unsure cut a couple of inches off the end of the hose and try again.

If you feel the fittings are the correct size, then try adding some ptfe Tape underneath the ring and then try again.

I use a pair of tack removers (pinchers) to close mine with and never had a problem

Failing all of the above and to save you any further embarrassment when entering the bank, I have been kind enough to provide you with a link for you to purchase some colostomy bags ;D

Jeff, what's this? Some constructive advice?lol. If you've never had a problem,i reckon it might be a dodgy bit of hose. I might try repositioning the o ring. Move it up a bit. It's deffo the right size. If it aint one thing,it's ya mother  ::)

HI Pole2pole,

I just need to ask a few questions:

What size pole hose is it?
What size O ring is it?
What size Ez-Snap connectors are they? (6 or 8mm)
What are you using to crimp them with?

Once I know this I can better decide what is awry.

Hi alex. I knew you'd respond cos that's the kinda guy you are :) Without going thru all the hassle of diggin out paperwork, finding tape measures and micrometers from the shed lol, i'll pass on looking up that info if ya don't mind. But can you tell me whether the 2 eared work better than than the single ones? It appears to clamp perferctly, with YOUR pliers, but there's something just allowing it to start dripping under pressure. Maybe a bit of ptfe might just sort it. This job just wouldn't be the same without a drip now and then, would it?  ;)

I put two on at ninety degrees to each other 'cos i always seem to get a slight bubble in the hose when the clamp nips up. Sometimes i can get away with one but not very often.

Generally I find that the single ear clips when fitted correctly are more reliable than the double ear clips.

When crimping them down it is important not to 'catch' the hose in the ear of the clip. If your clips are the new 'inner ring' type then this should not be the cause.

Perhaps re-fitting with some PTFE tape on the inside could help, or trying the next size clip down. If you email me with your real name I could look up your order and see what you're using.
