Hi everyone!
I got asked to go and quote for a job today, the lady (I'm playing it fast and loose with the word Lady!!!) told me that she had been let down by 3 wc's in the last 3 weeks and that she was desparate to have her windows cleaned before her sons party this weekend. They quoted but never turned up. The house is 3 floors with a total of 19 windows + a velux, all reachable with a 35ft pole, I had already agreed over the phone to do them on friday if she accepted my quote, I quoted what I thought was a very reasonable £30. When she heard the price her sweet smile turned in to a snarl, She told me that my price was extortionate and that I should be reported to trading standards, and if I wasn't so light on my feet I would have been hit by the door slammin behind me. What a bitch! AHhhhh! Thanks you guys, I feel better for getting that of my cheast. Does anyone think I was out of order with that quote?

having read some other posts on here about prices down south your 30 quid sounds an absolute bargain your better of without her ;D ;D ;D
-
Thanks, I thought so too!!
-
well out of order you know its double for first cleans ;D
-
Doubles a nice idea but it's too competative in the south!
-
i take it youve blown your invite to the party ;D
depending on the size of the house and the windows and £30 is your quote stick to your price
how long do you think it would take to clean the house?
Brett.

recon it would take 45 to 50 mins at a good pace.
-
was it a one off or regular job?

No matter what size of place it is, £30 seems pretty reasonable for a last minute one off job..... and why trading standards? Do people report their local grocers for being twice the price of Asda... or BMW for being twice the price of Skoda? A price is a price.... and its up to each individual whether they want to pay it!

she talked about 8 week cycles, would have been a nice job, 2 mins drive from home, easy access, no dogs, all upvc, hey hum

I agree, she talked about trading standards cos I'm part of the Buy with confidence scheme.

it's hard to say without seeing the job, but it sounds straightforward and 1/2 hour tops on a 1st clean and 20 mins thereafter, so maybe it was expensive to her.
I bet someone has priced that lot up for a tenner!!
This post mirrors an experience i had last week canvassing in town. I went on rightmove and looked up the locations of the biggest houses, then went and leafletted. I quoted 1 house with about 18 windows but some very large at £22.
She told me i was "considerably" more than other quotes and gave me the leaflet back.
It got me thinking that i would have got that price in the countryside and also that it would have taken me around 20 minutes after the 1st clean to do. I could have priced at £16 and still done alright. I think i'm making a mistake concentrating on taking new work on at equivalent of my best paid jobs rather than my mid range earnings which would still give me an excellent rate per hour.

Whats that? Sounds interesting....
Surely she'd have to buy your services to report you on the grounds of that then! Some people eh...... shes just full of hot air, dont let it worry you ;)

Buy with confidence is a scheme run by east sussex council whereby I have been audited by trading standards to make sure that everything I do is legal and ethical. not every council does it, i think it's only in the south.
