Anyone thinking of buying an Ashby’s ninja who does not live within spitting distance of the place think long and hard before you part with your hard earned cash. They continually pester you when you show an interest in their machine if only their after sales service was as good. My pump went on my ninja only purchased in February and I took it to a local repair shop that looked at it and said it needed a new pump, which I already knew he gave me the pump back stripped down? Spoke to Derek who said the warranty was void because they had not serviced it but this was not explained when buying a machine from them that it has to be service every six months. But he said that would not be a problem because I’m based in the North East they would try to sort something out. Sent the pump back yesterday to be told because it was stripped down no warranty I only sent the pump back the way I received from the repair shop Why do these people try every trick in the book to avoid warranty claims? They charged me 89.00 for a cover for my ninja at Carpex only 59.00 on their website. IF ONLY THEIR AFTER SALES WAS AS GOOD AS THEIR SALES PITCH. I will never be dealing with them again I had an Extracta exel for four years with not one problem I have a ninja less than a year old and a faulty pump. Rant over. >:( >:(

I think there are one or two reliability issues with Ninja. I've had mine 3.5 years and have needed 3 new heater elements for the Steamate but the warranty at the back of the manual states "blah blah for one year from date of purchase , subject to full service within first 6 months of purchase at Ashby's premises blah blah blah and it gives you the option of getting authorisation to return warranty items.

Do other companies insist on a service every six months.
Do they charge.
Do you have to pay carriage,
What is actually checked and serviced

The list of people never going back to Ashbys, must be as long as the list still using them, by now. ;D
Don't get me started with Ashbys :-X
-
having read all the comments about Ashbys, i am just happy i didnt buy my machine from them, i was close, but they pestered the s..t out of me,following my intial approach to them about a ninja. looks like a wheelie bin anyway ;D

Ashbys, derek ashby never had a problem with its it son martin thats the problem ok when hes selling to you but when theres a problem martain is a waste of space and thats putting it as diplomatic as i know & enquired today about a 400 psi water pump and martain tried to sell me every thing under the sun & martain told me with that pump i could only use ashbys chemicals don`t see why i think another sales ploy (just to let everybody no this is just my view and no offence was intended with this post)and i hope i don`t get my fingers slapped with the forum moderators
thanks

Malc, You have only said what has been said many times before. ::)
Same response to my experiences with Martin a few years back when i bought 2 machines from them. I was told that i had to take them to Dartford when one broke down. I bought them from the Streatham shop and it was still open at the time. I told them that if i buy a Ford locally and it needs a service they don't make me take it to Dagenham..............straight over his head :o
Needless to say, my machines go to Bartons at Molesley now. They deal with you like a customer not an inconvenience ;D

Hi Guys
No its not a wheelie bin its a Darlek. (Exterminate) ;D
Cheers Dave.

Have to admit never found Ashby’s at all pushy and if did I would do the same as I do with others exterminate.
I’ve had my Ninja (the bee’s knees one solvent side used twice) coming up to 4 years did I take it back for service NO there only 9miles from me, have I had a problem with it yes last year pump was leaking on seal.
malc
If it’s true what you say 400 pump you can only use their agents a very sad statement on their part! :P
Steve
If I were in the same position ranting would not be the word, what the position on over charging on the cover £30 is a bit ott, then they had to pay for stand. ??? ???

Hi Guys
I agree with Len, Ashbys have done me no harm, they have helped me a lot.
I have done work for them before, never tried the hard sell on me.
But I have allways collected products from them, because I only live 12 miles either of the side of their two shops.
Regards Dave.

I have dealt with Ashbys at Dartford for several years.
I have always found them very helpful, and not at all pushy.
No complaints !

Chris,
Do I understand correctly that Bartons fix floor and HWE machines. My son lives with his mum in hampton so I am round that way quite a lot.
Could be very handy for me can you please post address or telephone no.
Thanks Michel

Michel.
Barton Electrical, used to be at Kingston and Prochems top outlet many years running. Not sure of address but through Molsley towards Hersham. At reservoirs there is big junction with snooker hall on one corner and they are just into that turning about 6 down on right. Number is 020 8979 4444.
Cannot fault the service in anyway

Just been in loft found an old Craftex Cat.
In it it clearly states although in a small typeface Machines returned under warranty at owners expense.
Amtech Motors not covered by consumers rights.
The point is i do not think ashbys act any diffrently than any other company.
However I do believe on some machines supplied by other companies you can pay for breakdown insurance as an extra
-
Chris,

Len, Richmond Rd opp sainsburys/safeways, was there yesterday I did,nt know you got round there seems a long way from your neck of the woods.

.What is the point of offering 12 month warranty then.Asda offer a 3 year guarantee with electrical goods i took a dvd back after two & half years and they exchanged + gave me money back as the new one was cheaper than the original i purchased now thats service.
-
Ian,
I know some of the other companies have been difficult in the past about covering the Lamb Ametek motors , particularly replacement ones fitted by us cc's.
The reason is that they blame the cc's for foam in the tank etc and to be fair this has probably been the case in a few instances.
However I cannot see any of these diclaimers standing up in court because goods have to be fit for the purpose.
Steve,
The power of the consumer is always the best tool for raising standards and these forums enhance that power :) e.g I now know a lot more suppliers of motors , local and at good prices so I don't feel I need to put up with shoddy service, just because I bought from a particular supplier in th e first place.
Cheers,
Doug
-
Doug,
I have been told by a number of different suppliers over the years that Lamb Amtech state that their vacuum units are designed for solus opperation, and would give no guarantee if more than one unit was fitted to a single machine.
They are clearly aware that two or more units are now the standard but I do not know if they have changed thier policy.

All companies will try and get out of warranty claims no matter what. Some warranties are not worth the paper they are written on.

This thread has been running for a week now and we all know Ashbys have been reading them on all three forums. So is there any chance of Ashbys making a statement either publicly or privately to individuals about the service they have received. I’m sure it has not been good for business to have many people posting their comments about the poor service they have received so why not try to rectify this by making a statement about how they are going to improve this. Come on Martin we know your watching.
