Someone told me white spirit would do the trick,... but I'm struggling!!
I've gotten the lettering off no probs with a scraper (carefully!) but the glue left behind just won't budge!! I'm scrubbing with white spirit, heating it with a hairdryer, even tried a bit of T-cut. Its shifting very very slowly,.. but seiously, its going to take me all week if I carry on like this!!!
Any advice?

try wd-40. I had a small amount of glue to remove and a small amount of wd-40 on a good soft cloth did the trick. Try a small area first tho
-
use a hairdryer heat it up and peel it off
-
Glue will be removed best with an alcholic based product, i.e. Isopropanol
or spiritus. Also use a microfibre cloth.
-
heat it up with hair dryer then use some oil-oflo works a treat
-
I used methylated spirits came off really quickly

Get some "Sticky stuff remover" from B&Q ;)
-
or you could ask a company that does this lettering and see what they would use marc
-
it used to be my job before wc 15yrs ago..... heat the vinyl up with hairdryer or something, and peel off slowly ;)
-
i got told to use petrol and it worked..but later was told to just heat it with hairdryer..a lot less messy and safer
-
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I was told by the company that put the lettering on that white spirits should work,... it doesn't!!!
The hairdryer trick also failed,.. but maybe only because it was so cold today.
Methylated spirits, isopropanol or oil flo are next to try, whichever I can get hold of first!

Nathaneal
You will need some paint thinners from a paint spraying shop or car spraying/ body repair place
I have just striped mine over the Christmas break and used it to remove the glue left by the lettering
This will work a treat and will only cost you a few qiud

oil flo 141 would do the trick
http://www.titanlabs.net/oilflo141.htm
and no it wont ruin your paint work. Then t-cut the entire van to get rid of the lettering marks, Luke
-
I can get my hands on thinners before I can get oil flo,.. so I'll be giving it a go tomorrow. It'll be worth all the hard work when it sells!!
Anyone wanna buy a van??? ;) ;D ;D ;D

methyl ethyl ketone (aka MEK) dont know what it will do to your paint tho
-
Methanol does a better job than anything else I tried today,.. still slow going though.
-
Nathanael you wont move it with just the fluids you have to peel it off first get a hairdryeer and heat a letter up at a time then peel one corner back and it will come straight off the oil o flow, meths etc is to get the glue thats left on after you got the main writing off
-
try clover tar and glue remover and a cloth worked really well for me, done two vans with it now.
all the best

Sounds like you need mor heat. Try a blow lamp but only on the lettering itself, and keep the flame at just the right distance to avoid burning either the lettering or the van paint, and obviously don't use petrol, or:

paintshop/body work suppliers sell and decal remover, it may dull the paint but its easily polshed after. I used it once for removing damaged decals/stickers on a motorbike.

:o :o I thought that stuff was banned ???

If you can get hold of it from somewhere..
Prepsol manufactured by Dupont.
It was originally marketted as a marine preparation solvent cleaner.
It's not as strong or aggressive as thinners, doesn't evaporate like petrol or meths, but it's stronger than white spirit. It doesn't take the paint off like T Cut.
Soak a rag, wipe it onto glue, let it sit on it for 5 or 10 minutes, then just used the same rag to wipe it slowly off. It will dissolve the glue.
If you can find someone who sells it, that is the stuff.
