Title: Waste of a morning...nearly!
Post by: Big_Fish on November 29, 2004, 07:35:01 pm
Hello,

Gave our local rugby club a quote for cleaning 40 upholstered chairs back in the summer. They had to get 3 quotes for the committee and finally booked for us to clean the chairs today.

On arriving this morning, there were no chairs. The secretary told us that after we had looked at them, they'd been put in storage. She went on to say that she'd like us to put them back into storage as soon as we had finished.

She took us out to the carpark where there was an old metal container (the kind you see in railway sidings). She opened the doors and sure enough, there were the chairs along with tons of other rubbish all piled up. She battled for a while and retrieved 5 chairs, they were damp, mouldy and the seats were crushed and distorted from being stored so badly.

She continued to pull out chairs, the deeper she went into the container they became mouldier and damper.

We looked at each other, explained about appropriate storage and told her to throw them away.

Could we charge them a call out charge?

Nearly a waste of a morning, but not quite...we took ourselves off to Toys-R-us!! ;D

Rugby club
Run by committee left hand does not know what the right is doing. If its a big club in the local community word will get around if you do charge and may not do you any good long term Short term it will take you forever to be paid anyway because of the need to have a meeting to discuss the issue.

Try talking to your contact and pass on your disappointment then tell them you would like to work for them in the future but in the meant time could you have a copy of their membership so you can make then a special offer in the new year.
Use the guilt factor.
Cheers

George

Have decided to leave it alone and not bother any further.

While we were there, the secretary mentioned that the carpet will need cleaning in the New Year. The only carpet I saw was so thick with mud it had become invisible! Only knew there was carpet there because it could be seen round the edges.

I'd be quite happy for someone else to get the call.
I don't like dirty carpets ;D
