hi, i sewar i have tried them all and i cant stop the drips lol
where is the drip coming from? please dont just say the connection, I had a problem with my outside van connections dripping, and found a nut was a little loose, this cut down on pressure to fill, always the simple thingsa are the hardest to find ::)
-
i bet it's dripping from where the hose from pump attaches to the hose reel!!
am i right?
bang on
-
I always sit my hose reels in a custom made drip tray. It holds 2 hosereels and I only have to empty it about once a week. Previously I had made some myself out of cut down plastic tubs.
-
If you have Hozelock fittings then they are pretty useless imo - they are not designed to spin all the time and not designed for the pressures we use. I bought a metal reel and a metal elbow type connector from Gardiners - brilliant!
-
Thanks everyone i think i will look at those elbow connectors or a drip tray..
thing is .. why are you using a drip tray Alex when Djw has the solution and he got them from you.?? :)
-
Strange isn't it! It just shows everyone has personal tastes. Although we supply the metal hose reels and brass elbows, I personally do not use the metal hose reels as I find them far too heavy. I stick to good old-fashioned hoselock reels which do still drip. This is not a problem for me as I always use the reels outside of the vehicle and the only water that the drip trays have to catch is the excess that comes out of the hoses when they are unplugged and stored in the vehicle.
easy clean's tip certainly sounds worth a try.

Arrrrrggggg....how can you use one of them!!!!!! :) I fill my tank with a hozelock reel, they are terrible, so light and flimsy. The winding action isnt clean either!!! you are in my bad books Alex >:( ;D :)
-
Yes i will try everything..... i too use mine out of the van because of the drips lol.. use decent sized hose so i can take it to the side , rear or front depending on van park location... or hose trapping under wheels etc.
-
My reel never leaves the van now- no drips. I managed to crush my Hozelock reels and had a terrible time with them (too much water pressure). Trouble is i now have arms like noodles what with my Superlight and all. ;D

these fittings will NOT work with hoselock reels we have exactly the same problemand have not really found a permenant cure we have found that it isnt just the oring that wears the whole fitting does and guess what, you cannot buy them from b&q or anywhere like that we had to go direct to hoselock to get ours.
i have to say that we have had a lot of trouble with hoslock reels i have seen comments from people saying that they have had hoselock reels for years with no problems i find this hard to believe we had probs right from the start with the reels being forced apart by the pressure expanding the hose and forcing the 2 halves of the reel apartalso endless probs with leeks etc and i know we will eventually move to another rell maybe metal
sorry to ramble but it a pain

why do you guys use hozelock? they're rubbish, when we used half inch hose from the pump to reel we used CK fittings, bit more expensive but superb quality, but then we changed everything to 10mm legris piping and push-fit fittings, even better again but wouldn't be much use to anyone who lifts the reels in and out of the van. If you do lift the reels in and out then go for the CK fittings everytime, no other brass or plastic qrc comes close.
I'll post a link in a minute or two

both cheaper than what we got them for.
don't tempted by the cheaper brass and plastic fittings, these are the business if you use half inch hose to connect your pumps to your reels
-
the o-rings seem to fit much better, trust me we had them on for over 2 years and never got one single drip, we only changed again because we wanted to really make the vans as neat as possible (we're a bit crazy) and so we've gone for push fit
why don't you try even one (the male end that screws onto the reel), the connecting hose won't spin and tangle lie it can do with some other fittings
-
we have tried those metal fittings, but as i say above they will not fit hoselock reels so until we change they wont help us
thanks anyway
-
i use to use plastic fittings and it leaked so i changed to brass fittings and it hasnt leaked for years, imo get brass fittings

Hi
My reel was leaking, so i changed the o-ring on the male on the reel, still leaked. anyway i looked at the male connector and found the plactic lip behind the o-ring had worn down due to wear. if the fitting between the female on end of hose and male on reel is loose it will leak, to replace fitting on reel should only cost about £3.00,
Take a fitting off a tap and put it beside the one on the reel you will see the differant. Michael D

Thanks for all your imput, some good solutions here and i will try them,
