Title: Worst form of Marketing
Post by: Bonkors on January 22, 2008, 05:55:30 pm
Hi,

I know there are many posts on here that mention good marketing policies that have worked for some. I was wondering, what has been your marketing policies that havent worked out. It is good to know so that others out there looking to start up will bear this in mind and benefit from other peoples experience.

At the start I thought handing out leaflets at the major junctions would be a good way to target people on a particular route........€400 of leaflets and hi viz vests etc ..........5 minutes after starting the law ran me.

I reckon the worst form of marketing is leafletting, the returns tend to be abysmal - far better to door knock. Some person on here has just had 10,000 printed for what return? 0.5% if your lucky?

Word of mouth and being seen seems to be the best for me, i'm hopeless at doornocking because i hate being turned away and lose enthusiasm. My wife however is very good and has the skin of a rhinoceros (so to speak) and is very succesful at canvassing.

I used to hate knocking when I started out, but it's by far the quickest way of building a round.

Leaflets followed up by doorknocking.  Softens them up and makes the cold call much easier.
