Post by: zeusjazmin on January 18, 2008, 08:14:07 pm
things can be tight for me in the rainy season but most of the time through the bad weather i can earn a few hundred per week
got me thinking what is the average earnings of people who are not window cleaners?
we can work really hard and get our just rewards but what do others get for their efforts.i am not talking about accountants or city whizzkids just ordinary people

A friend of mine is a welder; he earns £300 a week for working 9 till 5 Monday to Friday; more with overtime.

I'm not sure if that's take home pay; or before tax; I didn't like to ask.  He seems pleased with it though.

Someone did some welding for me, for about three hours and charged me £375 'cash', if you know what I mean -  ;)

Tosh going rate for welders here is £8-£12ph PAYE (site welding, tig, NOT in afactory doing dummy welding). £20-25 self-employed or at least it was last time I checked.

I'm a floor and wall tiler, just going to start hard floor and carpet cleaning business, and i have another business creating wild flower meadows for the super rich, this is very seasonal work and takes a lot of planning, and very expensive machinery.

or for most of the country except for the south east corner. 16k is a good basic wage for many around here.

I'm a London taxi driver but I don't do it at the moment. The overheads are crippling and the work is way down.
Everybody you talk to in the taxi world is looking to bail out.
