What exactly is this for? allowing air in, but preventing water from splashing out??? Luke

Its a picture of a 650ltr tank lid with a piece of hose in the lids hole 10cm long with a y splitter in the end, Luke

Luke,it is to let air in the tank to breath as they create a vacum when being pumped and allows the water to flow easier,the T splitter prevents the water from coming out
