Title: Forgotten which DI to change!
Post by: Rogue Trader on January 18, 2008, 05:49:51 pm
I have a TDS of 4 after my first DI bottle and TDS 0 after my second DI bottle .... so i have deduced that resin in DI bottle 1 needs changing .... but do i then swap them over so DI 1 (with fresh resin) is in DI bottle 2 position or leave them the original way round ???

Don't change it yet the TDS is still too low, save some money! I change my first bottle at 80 TDS as my tap water is about 90 TDS. 0ppm will still be coming from the second bottle. Then bottle two becomes bottle one and the fresh goes in position two! I  run a DI only system.  ;D

I dont know what tds RO people change their resin on but my vessel lasts about 8/19 weeks. I let the resin climb to the same level as the tap because then I know my resin is completely exhausted.

Maybe it makes sence that if your merlin is producing 20 ppm then change your resin then?

Is there any point in having a two vessel system on a RO system?

What I would do is test the TDS after the RO.  If it's higher than the TDS of the water coming out of DI1, don't change anything as the resin in DI1 is still doing something.  I don't change DI1 until TDS after RO = TDS out of DI1.  However, these tests should not be made shortly after the water flow restarts.  Wait till it's been going a while because some ROs produce a higher TDS for a few minutes when they've been standing a while.
Throwing away the resin from DI1 if it's still doing something is wasteful IMO.  Bear in mind that once the water out of DI1 starts producing a reading >000, it won't be too much longer before it needs changing anyway.  Having a DI2 just saves me from having to change things around immediately if I'm too busy or can't be bothered.

wether RO is used or not, the first vessel shouldn't be changed untill it's output tds reaches the same tds of the output before it, or you're wasting resin.
Have you given the resin a good shake to lower the tds?

if it is only 4 leave it, when your second strats to rise change first to fresh resin, put the second one in where the first one was, and the fresh resin will then be where your second vessal was

What's your tds before the DI? You may just need a bigger DI after the RO if you are in a very hard water area.

80 after the RO?????? even in the worst hard water area you're output after the RO should not be more than 20 or 30. Mine is 4 after the RO!!

Something is seriously wrong there!!

My RO has three pots and then one of them the last one has resin in it looks just like my DI is this correct?

Propper confussed

I don't change the resin until the 2nd di tank has a reading of 5.
