What is the largest amount of pixels the avatar pictures can be? Luke

The trouble I'm having is I used to be able to copy and past an image address into my profile for my picture but now it won't allow me to do that....it will only let me upload a picture.....but when I try doing that, it doesnt work and I just wanted to make sure of my pixels size, I thought it shouldnt be larger than 100 x 100, Luke
