dont know if its been covered before, but at the moment I'm using an RO system with no water meter on the house, but now we've had the notices round to say they're now being fitted. The main question is can I use a water softener and then pass it through a di rather than dump 65% of all water down the drain

Hi Steve.
Im in a metered hard water area. I have a reach and wash pro 5. When I fill up I soften the water before it goes through the RO but I still get about 50% waste. I would imagine it would be the same for you

They can only fit a water meter with your agreement. Tell em to get stuffed. :o

thanks for the reply guys, sorry I havn't answered but been out working. Dont know if its true but come 2011 all houses are supposed to have water meters fitted. So I was wondering if you softened water down enough, to say a dts of 100 and put it thruogh a DI system rather than an RO system as I am at the moment

water softener wont make any difference! i don't believe they lower the tds, i may be wrong !there used in front of r/o to remove the chlorine which can damage some r/o membranes

so they dont actually soften the water in the true sense then
