i just informed my boss that i'm switching to part-time so that i can do window cleaning
went a lil summink like:
"Ha Ha, why would you do that?"
because i can earn more doing that, than i can
working here.
<short argument about weather, and secure job>
"ha... ok, i'll have a think about it"
wasnt so much of a request, more of a thats the way its gonna be.
-----------------------------------------------------------
i recon i can do £22p/hr by myself
and more if i get a helper.
plus W/C'in was my first job, doing it for someone else and it was an enjoyable job.
(but no money working for someone)
Goodbye writting stuff for windows, Hello cleaning them.
Hello Fellow Window cleaners! ;D

Hey John :D Good luck and... good choice :D:D
<short argument about weather, and secure job>
Did your boss make the argument about a secure job? If you think about it.... the windows is a much more secure job than working for an employer! :) Apart from the obvious problems with sick pay, holidays etc... the risk of being unemployed is much smaller, as your work is spread over potentially hundreds of customers! You can lose one of them and still have plenty more left :D

good luck
but your giving up a office job, sat in a warn dry office with a cup of coffee sat on your desk

....and boredom, office politics, idiotic bosses, unreachable targets, zero work-life balance, RSI, DVT.... ;)

This forum is a powerful force in keeping us focused and part of a community that never existed before. Its easy to take it for granted but it really does work.
For many years I never even spoke to another window cleaner. Now I can exchange real knowledge and experience with window cleaners all over the country.

Yes! Like me ;D

Will you be going down the trad route or wfp?

Will you be going down the trad route or wfp?
Andy
Traditional at first because its what i know from when i was doing it with my old wc boss. but when i've got a bit of cash to play with i'll be giving the wfp a try
after i've looked into it and seen how it all works.
i really enjoyed wc'in... i hate my office job...the bordom, the lame pay, the targets, the bordom...
did i mention the bordom?
tony its up for grabs for anyone who likes being an underpaid and replaceable programmer.
now to pray for sunshine.

So where abouts are you ?

Welcome John! :D
fair play to you for starting at this time of year
I started this time of year 2 years ago and haven't looked back!

based in Milton Keynes, not too far from london.
i am about to have the difficulty of telling a couple of customers that if they want the level of quality that i provided on the first clean it will cost them more.
due to the fact i have underpriced them.
(was trying to charge simular to my old boss, but improve on the quality) :-[
then again it was only when i found this forum that i realised i could/should be charging nearly twice the amount.

£22 an hour? More like £30 trad, and £60 wfp. :)

Are you jdemarco in disguise?

yeah i was kinda basing that on what my old boss was doing.
£60ph :o , what are the estimated running costs of wfp tho?

OH Really set yourself what you was earning as P\H price then go from there maybe set a bit less
you here the extravagent this much and that much that people earn but then you find out they do 2-3 days and that is it
set yourself reasonable goals mine is 10 - 15 new customers per month so far been getting 25 but my target is still 10 - 15
I jumped in WFP as at this time of year it is invaluble I had done W\cleaning before then had some bad luck so I can trad and do so still on the bottoms on normal houses
If you can manage £1500 on a credit card then do it as you can treat it like a buisness loan to start yourself up.
Also you do not have to worry about changing card or leaflets at a later date and this will save you money too.
Your customers will already be knowledgable about the system as that is all they will ever see you use so that is also a hassle you will not have to worry about in the future.
Do not let the pessimists at the office get you down either just tell em you want a better quality of life and don't mention the money
If they got savy they will work it out for emselves
Good Luck Fella keep it real as I know what I can earn in a day and sometimes even £25 - £50 is better than nothing
not that luck has anything to do with it just hard work and graft
says me on the PC looking out at the rain finaly up and having a coffee but just got a conract for cleaning 3 pubs monthly
;D
Life as they say sometimes is good
