I know i've got nothing much on today so i am going to take my car to the carwash and spend my hard earned cash. Who's with me - no one? Let's have our windows cleaned instead then?

thats how i am thinking, im sat here raring to go, put its absolutely pelting down, i cant clean someones windows in this,
i dont mind working in the rain one bit but i just dont fancy cleaning windows in this, even with wfp.
i have worked lots in the rain but not this..... its would seem to the customers as though i am mental and they would feel ripped off i am sure.

Ah right, I was trying to decipher it!
There will be plenty who disagree, but would you pay good money for it on a day like this?
..and let's face it, it ain't cheap.
Not only that, but the sort who will turn up in the rain are usually the ones who charge a lot more too. ::)
-
yes, its too much,
i keep going to thedoor to have a go , but i simply cant turn up to a house in this stuff and believe me i want to!
just heard the flood warnings now.
here we go again ???

its stopped here
ive done my job at home that had to be done for the mrs
do i go out ? ?? ? ?
it still looks really dark though
-
Yes it stopped here about 11.30. I'm off out.
-
No point in Swindon, the whole area has flood warnings & it's mega windy. Today is a total miss.
We worked y/day, and kept stopping/starting, as well as custies saying 'not in this weather surely'. Don't blame them really.
-
stopped here im off lol

Hi All
Lovely Day 8) 8) 8) ;D ;D ;D
Yeah, you can't work when it's heavy rain and wind...........Stupid that is ::) ::)
But light or even steady rain.....why not....if your customers moan just leave em out that month. With WFP you wet em anyway and you wash a months muck off so they won't get too bad. Most of my customers don't bother.......it's me who don't like getting wet ??? ??? ???

It stopped here too. I started out and only got half a mile and the clutch finally packed up.
Been out looking for a new van. I would have gone to 3 grand, but found a tidy M reg escort 55 for £350, that's £50 more than I paid for the last one. That's inflation for you, mind you the last one lasted 3 years and the dealer paid £100 for it, so can't complain. I can now afford a new saddle and stenson, Dai
-
It's still dry here, but I've just come home.
A bit earlier than I would have liked, but my next job was half hour's worth, and it's sooooooooooo dark! :o
I'd probably need a torch to finish it, and it would look a bit stupid starting it anyway. ;D
-
i worry a little every week when forecast like this but when i do my totals at end of week its never as bad as i imagined it would be at the beginning of the week............altho this week looks worst so far here on south coast
-
Lucky ive been busy with b/cleans otherwise id be in trouble im now 2 days behind on residential cleans weather looks ok for me tommorow so gonna try catch up
-
Dry here from midday till 4.15. Just finishing as rain started again. Very gloomy pm.

The problem I see with not working in the rain is that you get up each morning looking out the window to see the weather and make a call on work or not. I prefer to expect to work every day and then call it off if it gets too bad.
I generally will clean in the rain unless the customer doesnt want it done.

I worked all day today in the wind and rain , I loved it because I was earning money when many others were sitting at home moaning about the weather, well I cleaned 22 houses in all with an average of well over £10 a house............... who's the stupid one? ;D
-
22 houses ? were they all stacked up on top of each other i been trying for 5 years to do that many and still cant whats your secret?
-
speaking for myself, if i did do 22 houses in one day i would be rushing and the job would prob be crap
maybe i am picky ut i don't think so

You two have got to be having a laugh! 22 houses in a day is nothing, I only worked about 5 1/2 hours today to achieve 22, the most I have done is 36 which was an 8 1/2 hour day last Summer, and before you ask they were all perfect finishes, I aim to increase that record to over 40 this year.
There is no secret, I just work hard, methodically and just keep going!
-
;D ;D no more my sides are hurting! ;D ;D ;D ;D you were still on here at 09:40! ;D ;D

I don't quite understand what you find so funny? I'm not lying, any decent window cleaner should be able to achieve that amount of houses on an estate were most of your customers are next door to each other! Its only an average of just over 4 houses an hour, I have managed 6 small houses in an hour quite easily!

Yes I posted on here at 9.40, so what? I started work at 10AM and worked intil 3.30, thats 5 1/2 hours like I said! ;)

I think the reason is they cant do it or dont, this figure is easily got if you worked 8 hours a day and for some alot less and also had the custom to maintain this amount of work.

If you was employing someone, would you still sit at home watching the rain out of the window or would you be persuaded to get outside and earn a living. Sole trader not working calls it a day off. Employer would think to himself, "I can't afford to stay home and pay my employee for doing nothing", especially during the winter months.
-
i need to work but its windy and raining heavy... on and off, most customers dont like it

What you need to do is put on your waterproofs and a thick skin, and just go out there and do it, explain to any moaning customers that you cannot stay in business if you have to stop working every time it rains, and I always tell them that the rain should make little difference as I clean the frames too which prevents dirt dripping onto the glass from the top of the frame, and if any of the windows are unsatisfactory they can give me a call and I will come straight back out and clean them again, I have never had a single call!
OK you may lose the odd customer, but most just accept it and are glad to have a good reliable window cleaner.

Just to back up groundhog......i do between 20 - 25 a day...always start at 8.45- 9.00, and finish between 12.30 -2.30.
Today i have 26!..i will finish no later than 2.30.
No, i dont lose customers, yes i do a great job, yes i am knackered at the end of it!!!
