WHY is it when you get a WFP and all the window cleaners local to me think I have step into the dark side!
YES I am getting more commercial and they have lost work and I have a new van.
BUT I really have had it with this ladders V WFP I didnt ask for this! its the bloody ladders user, they should wake up and smell the coffee
WFP has showen that we dont need ladders for every day use, why risk are necks for a one pound window?
So I say YES it is time we as a indusrty moved into the 21 century and BANNED LADDERS

And next time you've got to do a window on a balcony or a flat roof? ::)
Very silly idea, and I think you'll find the majority of window cleaners still use ladders.
-
Now you've done it! We'll be having wfp vs ladders arguments all weekend... ;D
I think both are valid tools, so I don't support a ban.
-
I went WFP and tried not to use ladders at all. Doesn't work. Flat roofs and balconies are a perfect example. As long as you use ladders to GET TO your place of work, fine. Just don't use them AS your place of work, if ya know what I mean...
I also carry stepladders for getting over locked gates :)

We still use ladders and always will, we have to have them for access but working off them is now kept to a minimium as this is the safer option.

i reckon at least 40% of my work has a flat roof, so as much as i would love to stop useing ladders compleatly it simply cant be done.i still love wfp though, useing a short ladder for the odd access is still a damn site safer than than working 18ft or so up a bloody great ladder all day ;D

What like we should ban WFP cause it uses an amazing amount of water and what if we have a water shortfall and the excessive water will freeze driveways and paths in the bitter cold!!!
Get real....simple fact
There'll always be window cleaners using ladders
There'll always be window cleaners using WFP

And the point is ???? :-\

The point is that I don't see any threads from trad cleaners saying ban wfp cause it uses gallons of water. There will always be windows cleaners with ladders and there will always be window cleaners without ladders. Live and let live that's what I say.

Live and let live that's what I say.
Which is why trad cleaners do whats below.
The point is that I don't see any threads from trad cleaners saying ban wfp

Live and let live fine, but I'm living a whole lot safer with a pole in my hand if you catch my drift.
-
Thats completely your choice but I think threads saying "ban ladders" is a bit excessive.
I'm sure it's just as easy to slip on a wet path or pavement from a wfp'er and crack your head on the floor and die!! or trip over the piping but you don't see me starting threads saying let's ban WFP !!
-
POT, me thinks you are POTTY .Understand there is room for everyone whether trad or wfp.
With 2 posts to your name, you will just make enemys with stupid sweeping statements like that !! :-X :-X
Constructive posts are more welcome. ;) ;)

if they did an outright Ban on ladders many of us would need to replace so much work and would be a total nightmare, and I am wfp.

Too right.
The only work accidents I've had are since using wfp.

Its simple the job is impossiable to do this job without a set of ladders theres always a flat roof somewhere on the round you will need em for. ones who say they cant be bothered are just lazy *******. my rounds 80% wfp but like i said theres always somewhere you need them. What i seem to find is most of these people that come out with these statments having only been in the job 5 mins aswell.

Sorry all, seems I have caused a stir, its just I have had it with this WFP v Ladders and I have now been set to coventry by most if not all ladder window cleaners local to me, all because I have showen initiative and better myself and invested in a WFP
I would have to disagree with the point made about the use of a ladder, speak from being a ladder use of 5 years, when I made the change over to WFP last year I had to arrange the whole round to WFP (close parking, no flat roofs, no flaky windows, oxidised frames) I lost third of my work, however it free me up and being 2 or 3 times faster, it gave me more time to get better work and in turn give my family a better life which is what its all about
Joe
PS asboss! calling me potty! is not constructive ::) there is allways one ::)

Maybe it's because YOU have said BAN LADDERS?
Don't you think your local Ladder guys might find that a bit aggressive?
On the other hand, trad folks do tend to be a bit aggressive towards us WFP folks.
I think it's a bit of jealousy :o.....Like I was 3 years ago when I first came on here ::) And our old mate Squeeky ;D.
I couldn't see the point of spending £1000's on equipment (I couldn't afford it ???). But I was envious the WFP folks didn't lug around a ladder all day >:(

butt on the pole hurts ;) I dont do aggressive, if provoked thats there look out I am normally a very nice guy.

Pot,
I said POTTY because with a statement like that you were setting yourself up for a fall ( ladders or not ).
It's great you have set up your round without the use of ladders, alot of guys still need them for access and some use trad and wfp like myself.
Everyone has a choice, it's not just a your way or the highway situation.
This topic has been going since before 2005 when the working at height regs came into force. WFP guys were convinced that come april 05 ladders would be no more, how wrong were they.
When I use wfp local trad guys are interested in the method of cleaning and not slag me off, then again we all get on well together with never any probs even helping each other out at times.
Godd luck and regards
Adam. ( 20 years in business) ;)

My old Dad used to say "If you want to find the easiest way to do a job give it to the laziest bloke"
The fact that I am a WFP window cleaner is because I am that laziest bloke. I had my doubts about WFP before I started and to be honest I still have them now to some extent.
Five years ago I was debating on here about cleaning window with "a bog brush on a broom handle"
But I recognised that WFP is superior to trad from a business point of view because it quicker and requires less effort on the part of the operator.
Yes I still get problems with occasional spots and runs but my customers pay me and are generally satisfied with the results and I go home with more money in my pocket.
;)

Vince,
I think you took my post the wrong way, I am not slating WFP at all, I love it and use it.
I was just stating that ladders still need to be available on certain propertys.
I just think that this post could go down the road of wfp v's trad again and this has been done over and over again.

Yes Adam
I still have to use my ladders most days as well. My point is I am motivated by money v effort and little else.
If Harry Potter could lend me his magic wand I would use that.
I don't care if they ban ladders and I don't care if they don't. Nobody will enforce it anyway. If you are to survive in business you have to deal yourself the best hand you can, its as simple as that.
