Bet everyone feels sorry for their customers now poor old architects!

These are before they get taxed so a Pilot takes home about £700.00 a week  after paying 40% tax and NI.

Which just goes to show wealth can be a state of mind.

I presume that it must be averaged out across the country?
But agree way off....
£36k for a police officer (sargeant or lower) they're having a laugh. The joining salary is around £16/£17k round here and if you want to work every weekend and 12 hour shifts all the time you might just get to their figire

But aren't those 40k vehicles part of the business?  Maybe that's why their profits are so low.

The thing you need to look at is how many jobs are there where the pay is going down year on year. This may be in actual terms or just relative to the cost of living.

There are a lot of jobs where the skills are being devalued either by new technology, increased competition in the jobs market or the fact that everything now comes from China.
A friend of mine was made redundant last year. Skilled engineer, degree level qualifictions, top man in his field ( computer operated lathes ). Chances of getting another job zero. Hadn't had a pay increase for five years before being made redundant.
Thousands more like him. Many of us fall into that catagory.

Print trade is the same - i used to earn £200 a week in bonus alone twenty five years ago! £25000 a year then on average. The last five years i took a pay cut every year. The money was still reasonable but the lifestyle was crap - treble shifts, expected to work overtime when they wanted it horrible stinky dusty conditions and i hardly saw my kids. With this job i earnt nothing yesterday and will earn nothing today but what the hell.

i think there is a difference between window cleaning , and running a small business ,
which i beleive is what most of us do ? .

from most of what is discussed on here , the majority would be succesfull running a small business be it w/c or something else !

Doesn't reflect self employed people.

Also, these figures will include Ltd companies whose directors pay themsleves £100 a week.

Finally, many w/c firms pay minumum wage with a bonus. Bonus not included.
