Title: Tank attatchment
Post by: TVCS on January 09, 2008, 04:41:02 pm
hi everyone.
Just got my new 500lt tank today, cheers Alex.
Been looking into attatching it to me van and spoken to a family friend who is a blacksmith for ideas and hopefully a really good and secure way off attatching it.

He has basically suggested to lorry strap it down with some 6 tonne straps attatched to anchor points in the floor he can make for me.

I was thinking more in line of some sort of bracket to bolt over the tank to hold the thing down.
I was hoping to make it removable too as I still do the old pressure washing thing so if the tank could be removed without too much hastle it would be a bonus.

Just curious as to what you other guys have done and maybe get some good ideas and tips on who / where etc.
Thanks
Ant

You can buy custom made steel brackets from Cleaningspot, or get the heaviest ratched straps you can and attach them to eyebolts by big "D" shackles - whatever you do make sure the anchor points are fixed right through the chassis, not the floor pan.

Make sure that whatever you fit it goes around the chassis and can withstand forces in excess of 33000Kg in a normal speed accident. That quickly rules out straps if you know what I mean.

It can cost you your life, so safety first.

Purefreedom does a complete tankframe for £299 or so, better be safe then sorry.
