Anyone have any ideas of how to make a DIY silencer for a porty?.
I have a Recoil triple vac sounds like a 747 especially on the rare occasion i take it indoors. Great machine but way to noisy

John Bolton is the guy to ask on this one.
Why do you want less noise? one of the differences I noticed going to truck from porty was the amount of noise, more people tend to look whats going on and I get more jobs now because its noisier, if that makes sense.
Defo keep the machine at the door and just pipe through the house.
Let it rip. I would not quiet it down.

you need to find out where the noise is coming from, don't assume its contained within the exhausted vacuum air, to quieten this noise is easy. just get a foot of vac hose, fit a motorbike blow-through exhaust, then connect to vacuum exit point)

Mike would a motorcycle exhaust restrict the exhaust of the vac?
Paul you are right but it would be nice to have the choice with fussy customers on all day jobs
-
that's why I say use a blow-through exhaust it will create no resistance at all just baffle the sound. I say use a motor bike exhaust and not a car exhaust because motorbikes are stainless steel and very shiny so would look really cool and brill ;D
car exhaust are 'orrible ;)

Mike did you find out what size motor are on those driers of yours?

The earlier Recoil 3 that I saw is without doubt the noisiest portable machine I have ever heard, and noisier than most T/M's too :o The Scorpion is MUCH quieter.
There are small silencers available for the Scorpion, but Nick V-W has designed a simple silencer box too which is very effective at making the Scorpion almost whisper quiet. Give the Cornish Piskie a ring.
Safe and happy cleaning (quietly) :)

Thanks Ken it is hard to explain just how noisy the recoil is. I have an OK silencer but just wondered if anyone had any better ideas.

Do you know how much the silencers are from solution 's
