I was wondering if anyone else stocks a certain cleaning product and promotes it to their clients for example a stainless steel cleaner or limescale remover. I suppose I would need to talk to the sales rep for a couple of companies but if anyone has any thoughts on this, give me a yell.

hi there
are you talking promote the product and therefore sell it to the customer. or do you mean using the product at the customer premises.
if its the latter, then i always go down the route of finding the best thing for the job, whether it a product or piece of kit, if it makes life easier it has to be better.

Hi there
I meant prmotote a cleaning product and sell it to my customers. I had a little bit of inside information on a rival company today and it seems that they do this and just wondered if you lovely people had any thoughts on it.

I would have thought you would be promoting our kind hosts products !!!
-
I would have thought there may be a insurance issue here - just in case of comebacks
-
yeah good point that maybe something to consider. It was just a thought.

You -as the trader- will be responisble for all manner of issues if a product fails or is faulty, so you have to decide whether selling the client the product is worth it. Sometimes it may be and sometimes not. Are you talking about consumeables like toilet rolls and soap, or general cleaning products? If it is products then will the client want to buy them seeing how that you as the cleaning company use your own? What would the client need them for?

hi there
the other thing is, you dont really want your clients looking closely at products, cause they will then look at the price.
and they might then start to do some sums, labour plus materials, why am i paying £xx.xx for the service.
in my opinion keep them away, dont shoot yourself in the foot.
if we are to believe the press, and media, then the economic climate might get a bit tough, so concentrate of the BEST level of service, for the price they pay.

Don't be so hard on yourself, its not a silly idea at all, its just one that may cause you more hassle long term. I note that the carpet cleaners claim to make a good sideline from selling hand held vaccum cleaners and other products, so it can work, it just depends whether it is worth the while. In my opinion you can sell products to people who you dont do all the work for all the time -like when your hairdresser sells you the shampoo and conditioner they use for you to use at home- but when you are the only person who does a certain job for a client i think there is possibly no need for them to buy the products that they will probably never use.
