Clean It Up

Hi everyone.
I've seen the above question asked a few times, so thought I'd do my own test today.
Went out to do 2 houses WFP knowing my TDS reading was 17 ppm.
When I'd finished the 2 houses my TDS reading had gone up to 25 ppm.
Both houses had a mixture of types of glass - i.e. the kind that 'curtains' when you rinse it and the kind that forms 'globules'.
I checked all the glass an hour and a half later - when it had dried.
The results on the glass that 'curtained' were still perfect.
The results on the glass that 'globuled' were awful - I had to polish them all with a microfibre cloth.
I won't do that again!!
Just thought some of you might be interested.
Mike (PS. Logging off 'till later)

personally i wont use if above 5ppm have heard that upto 15 ppm is ok but imo 17 is too high and 25 is asking for trouble

I've once cleaned at 35 ppm; I didn't realise till I got home and I went back to check a few jobs, including a restaraunt with large panes of glass.
Everything I checked was excellent; no problems.

I ve cleaned my own house at 034 but use nothing but 000 for work

thing is tho tosh you didnt realise. all fine if no probs but would you have used it if you knew before?? Like luke i have used higher tds on my own house (usually the contents of the run off tank) but at the moment i would not feel confident using water with tds as high as that on custs but am thinking of doing tests on my house/neighbours/family later in year to see how far i can push the readings

Want to decrease your chances of leaving spots to an absolute minimum?
Only use 000 water.
Want to start getting complaints?
Use anything over 000.
Hydrophillic glass will seem to take water that is high TDS but all that is happening is that the impurities are spread evenly over the glass so they don't show so much.
Each to his own.
Not worth it to save a few quid in my opinion though

I dont do this but anything upto 035 is fine on windows that are cleaned on a regular basis using wfp. I Happly use upto 008 but thats the max.
-
I would agree for the type that sheet you can use higher tds, but on all other types of glass you will leave marks, guaranteed.

Hmm
Its the calcium that we are generally trying to remove from tap water and get to zero. On other threads tonight we have discussed rainwater- That doesnt contain calcium but it can have a tds reading of approx 1-17. just maybe it doesnt spot because it doesnt generally have calcium/magnesium salts in it ?

Yeah those white spots are a pain, even with a good rinse and 000 tds they can appear, but why white? are you saying it's calcium jeff thats causing it, but why not every window just the odd one? questions questions ;D

ive said it before
i know some1 local to me who when i tested his water it was 035 and he was still using it, this was a while ago, i know he hasnt changed anything, so i guess its higher
he gets no complaints

What you are describing sounds like milking coming off the frames. Some windows milk a lot and its obvious but others we don't notice because its less but its still happening. If the water is 000 it can't come from the water.
I did an inside and out for a lady before Christmas. Did the outside first, all seemed OK. When I was doing the insides I could see little runs of white spots on the tops of the upstairs windows where drips had run down off the frame. If I hadn't gone inside I never would have never have have known.

There's a company up here that has several vehicles. They don't filter at all :o
They just say that the "pole system is not perfect" but necessary to avoid ladder use. I believe they have a large turnover of customers though. Trouble is, these customers now think the pole system is no good.

Although Im trad and at the moment have no experience of WFP, this can happen trad too, although for a different reason, but sometimes errors cannot be seen from the outside, however on inspecting from the insides they become all to apparent.
This is why I question it to myself when guys on here say theyve gone back and inspected the windows and theres no spotting once theyve dried (one particular one yesterday) does that mean theyve checked the windows from the insides?? I doubt it !!
Perhaps its slightly off topic, my apologies for that, maybe it should have been a new thread, but your post did spring this to mind.

Matt and other trad guys you are already experiencing hphobic glass, just that no one has shown you what.
You know when your Z or fanning glass and on some the rubber just "sticks" , the blade doesnt slide and you think you need more soap. Or when on patios you find it easier to just blade horizontal or vertical.
Well thats the worst sort of Hphobic glass, you can feel it with your eyes closed.
Phobic will show more than 8 spots in a small 4" square. Its not caused bfrom milking. This time of the year is difficult bexcause no sun but when we do get sun its low in the blue sky and then the spots show. You will also see the spots when you next call to clean the windows because over the 4/8week period the remaining spots from last time have attracted more dirt than the rest of the glass and if you look you will find. Usually near the top and bottom edges where gravity cannot do its sheeting trick.
