Hi all just wondered if anyone uses a tower to clean them, if so are they worth it and wheres best place too get one ?.

don't bother with towers just get up there on the roof, it'll take your weight ;D
lol ;D no on a serious note why use a tower use your wfp if you have one should reach just about everything

my mate builds conservatories for a living and i cleared it with him before ever getting on one and he explained to me how they're built and that they will take your weight, he even said that the toughened glass will take your weight to stand on as well, but didn't fancy that, until on day i was cleaning away and just forgot where i was and found myself standing on the glass, he was right and now i just walk all over them and clean them with my 2 x 2ft pole.
much quicker and alot easier Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
Glass is glass... Not worth standing on imo!

I think we should make it clear that the toughened glass roofs you may be able to stand on NOT the poly roofs!!
Saying that, i wouldnt like to try it.
Which comedian was it that fell through a conservatory roof and got killed...........just looked Rod Hull

And do you think your insurance would pay up if they knew you were standing on a conservatory? Good luck with that. And good luck with paying the conservatory back out of your own pocket. ;)

I know a bloke down a pub.............. that unfotunately isnt good enough when it comes to health and safety, your insurance policy, other peoples property, but it might be so far as you value your health.
Whilst you're up there walking around on this glass, what service is it you're providing? Cleaning?
I was also thinking, why dont you just stand on a wheelchair, at least then youll have one to hand when you paralyse yourself after falling through the roof.

ask yourself one question:
HOW DO THEY BUILD THESE IN THE FIRST PLACE?
(by the way i only walk on the roofs that are almost flat, who do you think i am? spiderman!)
You've got a point, but insurance will laugh at a comment like that. They would have said, you shouldn't have been up there, and they've got Health and Safety to fully back that up. Good luck.

If the guy feels safe doing it thats fine. Why does everyone go on and on. Most the new large conservatorys are safe to walk on now. parsonally i wouldnt but its upto him. Not sure why some people go on and on all the time.

im sorry but if i was a customer and i asked you to clean my cons roof and i seen you stood on it i would go mental and you wouldnt get paid but you would get threw off my land!!!
It doesnt look professional for 1 and if you fell threw would you be covered??

I don't think this post was a knock but highlighted a valid point.
I was told by a customer the following month of a conservatory roof clean that i have worn a hole in the roof as it leaks now?? ::)
Unprofessional i know but i laughed it off and told her it was not possible.
If anything wears or leaks, some customers will automatically think someone must be to blame.

I was not trying to slaughter you m8, I was givin my views on it, if it works for you then fair play to you, personally I would not stand on a con, I do understand that if it is flat you can tell which are safe to stand on ect but it the ones that look safe can be the ones that problems can happen with, as someone else said if a leak happens you (us as window cleaners will get the blame for it, by not standing on it we cant.
I get more agro of my wife than I do on here ;) you lot are tame compared to her

For the really low pitch roofs i have a few scaffold boards that i have attached old rubber mats to. I place them over the rafters and climb on the roofs, mainly to clear out the leafs that have got under the wall plate trim or lead, but it also helps to push all the crud on the roof away from you rather than dagging towards you from the front. I have also used a tower on a few victorian and georgian roofs, when you havent got the room to move, makes it alot easier with WFP than working off a step ladder. If you are Trad, then get yourself a conservatory ladder, fantastic bit of kit, worth the money if you are doing a few of them over the year.
