once you have got logo as you want. make sure the type is in out lines. group it all together then you can enlarge it as much as needed.

if you still have the type set as a font when you send it to the printers they will not be able to view it properly if they don't have the font. create outlines on aLL FONTS group it and you won't have a problem ;)

A few month ago a guy posted his logo he had paid £100 for, well in 10 minutes I replicated it on Photoshop.

Heres his bought one:

Because I am a professional photograph restorer, and have both programs. Occasioanlly I use both, they are part of the same package, the CS2 package. Just incase you were wondering, that ivesons file was a jpeg, so I couldnt just open it up and change the colours I had to re build one in the same way. As you can see the stars positions arent perfect but in another 20 mins I could have had an identical replica of the same colours/text/size etc etc, Luke

all i'm saying luke is this is where people don't use the applications properly. i know its not serious and you just whipped it together but by using illustrator you have the flex ability to edit the type. photoshop you don't its just for editing images. to create anything always use illustrator its a 1000 times better

you could of taken that jpeg image into illustrator and traced it rather than re create in the wrong application ;) you could of edited the type properly as the original in illustrator as well

Yes I do, but Photoshop is adeqaute for what I needed to do and another reason why I used it was because all those blue/orange style gradients are Photoshop only so I couldnt have used them in Illustrator. If your trying to get on my nerves your succeeding! :)

I ain't trying to get on your nerves. Photoshop will produce logos but only to what size you create it at. the memory would be to big as well. how would you make a logo bigger if you needed it?

Here is a very early example of some restoration I did. This pictures is of my dad when he was in the atc. This picture went through a house fire and as you can see is very badly damaged. As I said this is an early example and I didnt employ many of the skills I since learnt but it was on this computer so it was easier to upload onto Picasa!

Before:

After:

Title: Re: My new logo

here luke a little insight into why you create logos and graphics in illustrator and why you use photop for editing pictures

Understand that Illustrator creates vector graphics and vector text. Vector graphics consist of lines and curves that contain mathematical objects called vectors.

Understand that Photoshop creates bitmapped graphics. Bitmaps consist of tiny dots of color. The eye fills in the spaces between the dots so the color appears to be solid. Bitmapped graphics are measured by the number of dots per unit - usually called dpi (dots per inch).

I'm not talking about gradients, i'm talking about styles that can be applied to shapes. Heres where I got some of the styles for the ivesons logo:

Title: Re: My new logo
Post by: nat on December 24, 2007, 03:42:16 pm
this is what i'm talking about Luke, it ain't the correct way. the star you've created will only print at what ever size you create it at. it will never go bigger. mine is a vector image which means you can print it out at 3000% and it will always be perfect. its the same as how fonts are made. never wondered why type is perfect when at 8pt or 300pt. its a vector image.

Its not a lecture just some handy hints. always use illustartor to create images never photoshop ;)
Title: Re: My new logo
Post by: Captain Scarlet on December 24, 2007, 03:42:26 pm
Within my stars there are 2 types of gradients, down-up and outer-inner. All of this can be done easily in illustrator but I would have had to re-produce it and I wanted to do something quick and by using styles I can achieve the same thing with the click of a button instead of 3 clicks of a button. I wasnt going to spend the rest of today making a perfect match to the ivesons logo! I understand vector images perfectly, but thanks for the advice. I was taught many of my photoshop and some illustrator skills by  a leading industry artist. He would design holograms for big companies and have to determine the way light would bounce off different layers to create a final holographic image!!! Luke

what I meant was he could have done it himself ( or got me to do it ) to a very similar standard in 10 minutes. You cant tell me his paid for one looks any better than mine. I was talking about this specific logo, if it was more complex I would have had too replicated it in Illustrator, Luke

Well I just like being friends with people and can't stand falling out. I think its one of those typical forum conflicts where people don't quite understand where the other party is coming from. I agree with nat that illustrator is better for logos and that wasnt what I was arguing about, and felt I was having to defend my decision to use Photoshop for just 10 mins. I just wanted to quickly replicate the ivesons logo to show that people can design nice ones themselves quite easily. I used Photoshop because I knew I had some nice styles I could use similar to the red ivesons ones, but I didnt so I used the blue ones instead!! Simple as that! I have Ilustrator and realise that Vector is needed for logos but in this case it wasnt. Do you understand now? :) Luke

ps. Its just my style but I prefer the lettering on my one because the original looks cluttered to me and too tight, I like modern open design!
