well its this time of year i pass on all my bookwwork all sorted out to my accountant he produces my trading accounts without actually carrying out a audit on my receipts cost incl vat £210.00
-
I got charged £1410 :o for my last accounts.
The reason it’s so high is that I became a Ltd company last year and there is twice as much paper work for him to sort out and send off!

Poor Accountants - why do they bother :-
University and years and years of studing and loads of exams and then they charge their customers a pitance.
How many customers would they need to make a decent living or to earn as much as the average window cleaner?
-
My accountant is quite cheap it seems, but I give her my earnings, I give her a bag of recepits, she rifles through them, checking if theyre kosher or not, its not hard doing a window-cleaners return, 2 or 3 letters a year, a couple of hours work, ticking half a dozen boxes on a tax return she can probably do in her sleep isnt bad for £165.00.

I have no doubt I could do it myself but I pay £400 a year + VAT for myself for a big firm of chartered accountants with tax specialists who also do my wifes office cleaning firm and the money is worth the peace of mind.
I've seen too many people being taken in for interrogation by the IR. :(
Of course rates will vary around the country.
-
under £200 . mind u he does send me a christmas card

If I can find an accountant at the lower end of these prices, then I might be tempted to use their services next year. They would probably pay for themselves.
Has anybody stopped doing their own returns and started with an accountant recently? Good or bad experience?

£500 in the first year

Because I am going to use my nod and do it myself. It ain't THAT difficult.

I know one, he says its money for old rope. You do the accounts, they spend an hour or so and get hundreds.
If your investigated by the inland rev, and there are errors, its never the accountants fault - the IR holds oyu responsible.
So the accountant only checks basic rules are followed.
Money for old rope mate.
